The ideal candidate must be highly organized and team-oriented with a customer-service attitude, who enjoys interacting with the public and is enthusiastic about learning something new every day. Candidate must have high integrity, strong computer skills and some experience in the design and/or review of land development projects; must be able to multi-task with attention to detail, communicate effectively both orally and in writing, establish and maintain effective professional working relationships and be able to assist in all aspects of the land development process. 

 

This position performs professional and technical level duties in support of the City’s engineering services and activities; Participates in the processing and review of land development projects to ensure compliance with city codes, specifications, policies, and standards; and responds to questions and inquiries from the general public, developers, contractors, engineering professionals, and City staff regarding engineering and development projects.

 

Assistant Engineer I – This is the entry-level class in the professional Engineer series performing responsible engineering duties while learning City policies and procedures. The Assistant Engineer I class is the training level classification and positions at this level are expected to have knowledge from their engineering degree program but may not have practical experience.  Incumbents are expected to rapidly acquire a wide range of knowledge and skills related to their assigned area of responsibility.  Positions at this level function with less program knowledge or skill level as compared to positions allocated to the Assistant Engineer II level and exercise less independent discretion and judgment in matters related to work procedures and methods.  Work is usually supervised while in progress and fits an established structure or pattern.

 

Assistant Engineer II – This is the journey level class in the professional Engineer series performing responsible engineering duties while learning City policies and procedures.  Positions at this level are not expected to function with the same amount of program knowledge or skill level as positions allocated to the Associate Engineer level and exercise less independent discretion and judgment in matters related to work procedures and methods.  Initially, work may be supervised while in progress and fits an established structure or pattern.  As experience is acquired, the employee is expected to perform with increasing independence and responsibility.
