We have an exciting opportunity at ByrneLooby, an international Civil/Structural/Geotechnical consulting engineering practice. Working alongside an experienced team based in St Helens and Leeds you will become involved with a wide variety of geoenvironmental and geotechnical projects including site investigations in relation to development/regeneration, energy infrastructure, environmental permitting and Part IIA compliance.

Our clients range from individuals to major contractors and developers, undertaking a variety of land regeneration projects, from housing developments to large scale industrial schemes. We have experience working in challenging environments such as soft ground, peat bogs, slopes (employing specialist rigs or scaffold platforms), overwater investigations in harbours, rivers and lakes, landfills, crane lifts and buildings basements and other below-ground structures.

Role requirements
  • Manage site investigations;
  • Good understanding of geotechnical and contaminated land risks associated with redeveloping brownfield land;
  • Project management and technical delivery of projects:
  • Basic financial and project management (understanding project finances and working to a budget);
  • Plan and manage ground investigations and monitoring;
  • Prepare Phase 1, 2 and 3 risk assessment reports;
  • Manage and validate remediation schemes;
  • Supervision and verification of remediation;
  • HH and CW GQRAs;
  • Effectively communicate with clients, colleagues and outside agencies; and
  • Supervision of ground investigations, remedial validation and monitoring
  • Mentor junior members of staff.
  • Working within the boundaries of the company SOP's and Health and Safety policy

Skills and knowledge
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills necessary to work as part of a team and to engage with senior management, clients, and regulators;
  • Good understanding of brownfield engineering and contaminated land;
  • Demonstrate an ability to understand complex problems;
  • Can effectively communicate with clients, colleagues and outside agencies and build effective working relationships, always aiming to exceed client expectations;
  • Excellent time and organisational skills allowing completion of work to time and budget; and
  • Is committed to Continued Professional Development and remains up-to-date with current developments in the industry
  • IOSH safe supervision of geotechnical sites training, or equivalent would be an advantage
