The Company
Morson Talent are working exclusively with Rolls Royce SMR (Small Modular Reactors) to develop a new verification team, who will play a pivotal role in the development and engineering of SMR technology through a complex lifecycle.

Rolls-Royce SMR is a start-up joint special purpose vehicle (SPV) business, specifically created to design, construct and deliver a new fleet of Small Modular Reactors power plants that will be a critical and strategic player in the race to Net Zero carbon emissions globally. Spun out of Rolls-Royce with its pedigree in engineering excellence but also attracting world class inward investment this is an exciting new business with an optimistic opportunity to be a global player in the coming years.

The Post
The Engineer - Structural Analysis with work closely with the component design teams to deliver stress analysis capability across the components design team. This will include delivering structural analysis to support a range of needs including assessments in accordance with ASME III, seismic assessment and DTAs. In addition to this, the role requires the engineer to provide an intelligent customer service for the supply chain partners in reviewing and advising analysis work performed in the supply chain as well as producing the necessary guidance to ensure effective and efficient ways of working across the team. Opportunities exist for all aspects of structural analysis including pipe stress expertise.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver structural analysis in line with the demands of the product programmes.
• Provide technical expertise and opinion in supporting design work and making design decisions within the IPTs
• Provide an intelligent customer service for analysis work conducted by design and make suppliers as part of the governance processes
• Produce guidance and policy materials in order to support the engineering and business processes.
• Assist with the elicitation and management of component requirements from a structural analysis perspective.
• Support ongoing concept optioneering by applying a sprint mentality to structural assessments that are fit for purpose.
• Deliver value into the design processes by informing decisions and engineering direction using appropriate analysis.

Candidates should have some familiarity/experience with the following:

Knowledge of ASME III Design by Analysis
Knowledge of DTA using R6 procedure

Qualifications & Experience
• Qualified to degree level or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Working knowledge of finite element methods for assessment of strength, fatigue and defect tolerance.
• Working knowledge of relevant design codes, including the ASME III design by analysis requirements for pressure boundary integrity and supplementary requirements for high integrity.
• Experience in the interpretation of customer specifications and defining and managing the engineering requirements using the Requirements Management process.
• Ability to communicate effectively with any audience, quickly establishing credibility and buy-in.
• Ability to integrate well within a project team in a commercial environment. This will include working in collaboration with external partners and suppliers.

• Travel: Contracted location of work is in Derby or Warrington although we operate a hybrid working policy allowing you to work remotely with the agreement of your leader, though may require some travel within the working day when visiting other branches or organisations.
