SENIOR CHARTERED STRUCTURAL ENGINEER /SER Certifier with experience in steel and concrete design required for along established firm of consulting civil engineers who have built an excellent reputation in ports, harbours and heavy civil engineering.The firm has expanded its expertise to cover general civil engineering, structural engineering, geotechnical/environmental engineering, architecture and nuclear engineering.
We are currently recruiting for a Senior Chartered Structural Engineer to join their Aberdeen office.

Reporting directly to the firms Partners you will be joining an established Engineering team with an excellent reputation for the successful technical delivery of challenging and exciting projects across a range of sectors including commercial, industrial and infrastructure.

You should ideally possess the following attributes:
  • Chartered MIStructE and/or MICE.
  • A registered SER Approved Certifier of Design (Building Structures) or an individual with sufficient relevant experience to immediately become a SER Certifier on appointment.
  • Strong background within structural engineering design including concrete design, steelwork design, geotechnical design and general civil engineering.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Working knowledge of commonly used design software packages.
  • Experience of liaising with other disciplines.
  • Sound knowledge of current design codes in steel, concrete, timber, masonry, etc.

You will have demonstrable experience of managing and delivering all aspects of structural engineering projects under your control including:
  • Establish and implement project quality management.
  • Understand, record and obtain client instructions for project variations.
  • Comply with Designers responsibilities under CDM regulations.
  • Undertake project financial management.
  • Provide support to Partnership in pursuing new opportunities and preparation of submissions

As part of the Civil/Structural Engineering Team in the Aberdeen office, you will be responsible for:
  • Reporting to Partners and Associates.
  • Integrating with other Senior Engineering Staff.
  • Mentoring of Junior Engineering Staff.
  • Working with the firms current clients and expanding the client base.
  • Producing engineering designs to a high standard.
  • Producing engineering specifications to a high standard.
  • Coordinating designs with Architectural briefs and with other engineering disciplines.
  • Assisting with the production of contract documents in conjunction with Architects, Engineers and Project Managers

Main Responsibilities (key tasks)
  • To prepare, supervise and review the preparation of engineering design calculations.
  • Carry out all duties associated with maintaining SER Certifier registration and produce SER Certificates for firm wide projects.
  • Attend and represent the firm at client face to face meetings.
  • Attend and contribute to design and contract review meetings.
  • Take responsibility and be aware of cost throughout the design engineering process.
  • To keep abreast and follow British, Eurocode and ISO standards and industry good practise.
  • To liaise with suppliers, sub-contractors and clients where required as part of the engineering design process.
  • Advise on structural issues across the various offices of Arch Henderson.
  • To ensure acceptable levels of accuracy in all information transferred from calculations to Drawings and Specifications and onward communication to Client and Suppliers.
  • To ensure and demonstrate Continuous Improvement in all aspects of engineering and design as appropriate.
  • To mentor and train other junior members of engineering staff.
