Our Civil Engineering group is a team of circa 70 Engineers and Technicians, working closely with the large international Arup skills base and the 350 Infrastructure London Group that provides design and consultancy services both internally and externally on a wide range of projects including: Strategic Planning for countries, regions, cities, districts, urban development, urban regeneration and waterfront development.

As a key member within this close-knit, growing London team that functions as a global hub, your expertise will be essential in ensuring the continued success and growth of the team via a combination of technical and management activities e.g. designing, client liaison, project managing, advising, supporting and mentoring.

The role

Reporting to the London Civil Engineering group Leader, and working very closely with technical professionals at all levels such as designers and project managers, you will be responsible for supporting the delivery of a wide range of projects: varying from small pre-feasibility studies through to detailed design and supervision of large-scale infrastructure projects.

Your technical expertise will include a variety of skills which could include:
  • Earthworks
  • Highway Design
  • Flood Risk and Drainage
  • Water Supply
  • Power Supply
  • Civil Structures

and will include an understanding and interest in:
  • Sustainability
  • Resilience
  • Climate Change
  • Smart Cities

As a ‘one stop shop' for clients whether they are external or internal. We work across a wide range of sectors including Government, Public Sector and predominantly the Private Sector.

While the provision of Civil/Infrastructure Engineering is a key part of your role it is also important that you assist in developing our Civil Engineering business by attending client meetings, producing bid documentation and general business development activities, but also by taking personal responsibility for the management and development of your colleagues. You will be expected to actively share knowledge across the team to contribute to others development and strive to deliver the highest quality of service to our clients.

As this role is critical to the continued success and growth of our business, it is essential that you are a naturally supportive individual who is highly motivated and proactive and demonstrates excellent attention to detail combined with commercial acumen. Confident and composed, you will be equally at home whether with the client on-site or in an office instructing and mentoring your colleagues or supporting others. As a flexible, adaptable individual you will be comfortable working in multidisciplinary teams with colleagues from a wide variety of professional and cultural backgrounds.

You will have technical expertise in civil/infrastructure that you will pass on to the team and supervise such design work ensuring excellent solutions are delivered to our client and the team skills are developed in the process.

Essential Skills and Knowledge
  • Experience in civil/infrastructure design and an ability to mentor others in this respect
  • Able to manage a complex and varied workload often involving multiple concurrent projects.
  • Prior Project management experience on small-medium size projects
  • Ability or experience managing clients directly

Desirable skills and knowledge
  • Management of small teams.
  • Track record of delivering small/medium projects on time and on budget/quality.
  • A track record of success in managing client relationships.
  • Civil/infrastructure engineering design
  • Civils 3D design package
  • GIS and BIM
  • Hydraulic design software

Qualifications:
  • MSc in Engineering, Chartered Engineer
