Job Description and QualificationsPosition: Principal/Senior Principal Process Systems Engineer (Water Treatment)
Air Products has an immediate opening for a Principal/Senior Principal Process Systems Engineer (Water Treatment) in Hersham, UK.

The successful candidate will be a member of growing EMEA Engineering Process team who are responsible for the regional execution of a range projects including including Air Separation and production of Carbon Monoxide, Hydrogen, Ammonia, Helium and Syngas blends.
The position has two roles. The first is provide technical expertise in water treatment, the second as Plantwide Process Systems engineer, developing P&IDs to support the range of projects executed by the team.
Responsibilities
Water Treatment Role
  • Support all the Water Treatment needs across a range of projects. This will cover steam and condensate systems, medium/high pressure process gas heat recovery boilers/coils, gas-fired boilers, cooling towers, heat recovery steam generators, water purification (e.g., ion exchange, reverse osmosis, filtration), and steam turbines.
  • Specify and design water treatment systems and equipment (including packaged water treatment systems) to enable our plants to been expected levels of reliability, efficiency, environmental protection and operating costs.
  • Produce process specifications for equipment items and develop/manage P&ID for these areas of the plant.
  • Train and develop other engineers in Water Treatment.
Process Systems Role
  • Develop and manage the projects P&ID's, functional logic tables, alarm and trip settings, critical safety tables and operating procedures/training manuals. Ensure thorough review of P&ID's developed by external companies and ensure good management of change is followed.
  • Participate in the hazard review process and other safety evaluations (SIL and Fault Tree Experience beneficial).
  • Review of vendor equipment drawings.
  • Coordinate functional issues involving plant reliability, operability and maintenance
  • Provide input into the plant design by reviewing the 3D piping model and overall facility Plot Plan.
  • Participate in the DCS (Distributed Control System) staging (SAT, Software Acceptance Test) and field validation.
  • Participate in field-commissioning activities including Operational Readiness Inspections (ORI), Plant Start-up and assist with the development and implementation of reliability test plans.
Qualifications / Requirements:
  • Minimum of a Bachelors Degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering preferred; Chemistry degrees will be considered.
  • Five to ten years in water treatment systems specification and/or design; of water treatment systems, cooling towers, ion exchange demineralizers and reverse osmosis. Prior experience working directly with third party water treatment solution providers.
  • Broad based knowledge of water chemistry and its use in process gas facilities for cooling water and/or steam applications
  • Demonstrated capability in the development of P&ID's and managing them through the life of the project.
  • Ability to mentor/train early career Engineers in Water Treatment excellence.
  • Detail oriented with strong follow through. Must be able to organize and prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced environment, delivering to schedule and budget.
  • Knowledge of industrial gas technologies, processes, and/or plants is beneficial.
  • Operations support experience, including plant trouble-shooting experience is beneficial.
  • Willingness to travel (expected travel level is 10-20% of time).
