Senior Civil Engineer

Are you a specialist in Flood or Coastal Engineering?

To meet our growing business needs and future development aspirations we are looking for a Senior Engineer within the discipline of civil engineering, specialising in either Structural, Flood or Coastal Engineering.

The successful candidate will lead technical design work for civil engineering projects within the flood risk management sector. We are looking for candidates with experience of traditional consultancy appraisal and design, and/or design and build work projects. The role may involve working within the JBA Bentley JV, alongside our partner JN Bentley. We are looking for candidates with sound technical knowledge, a positive and proactive mindset and the motivation to work proactively within the construction teams in a collaborative way with our Clients.

This role will report to an existing design team leader and will contribute to the delivery of a range of engineering and environmental improvement projects, including permanent detailed design and build schemes and temporary works. The candidate will be responsible for mentoring and supervising junior staff and, dependant on experience could develop into line management duties.

Location:

The successful applicant will be based within our Leeds, LS1 2HL or Tadcaster, LS24 9HA office although flexible working will be available for the right candidate.

Qualifications and experience

For this role professional membership of a recognised professional institution such as the ICE or IStructE is preferred and a degree (or equivalent) in civil or structural engineering is essential. JBA has an approved training scheme with the Institution of Civil Engineers and has personnel who can support your progress to Chartership. Candidates should have substantial and proven experience of UK consultancy work and/or design and build experience.

JBA Consulting is a client-focused organisation. Excellent report writing and effective communication skills are therefore essential to this role. Candidates should have a sound appreciation for engineering principles and good analytical skills for problem solving. Self-motivation and a high degree of organisation are also considered key attributes.

A valid UK driving license is required.

Who we are looking for:

The candidate must be a self-starter, capable of working without supervision to a high technical standard. Knowledge of relevant design codes and software packages is essential as you will be required to generate, check and review engineering calculations within a wide variety of projects including but not limited to drainage and structural. Excellent teamworking and communication skills are required, and you may have to work with staff outside of the core team based in your local office.
