Civil Highways Engineer

I am working closely with an international consultancy that are looking to heavily increase their Manchester Highways Team. They are looking for engineers with 3 to 7 years industry experience working on Local Authority Active Travel, BRT, Junction Improvements and road alignments.

This team has won a large amount of new works with Local Authorities across Greater Manchester through the TFGM framework. They work with Trafford Council, Salford, Manchester City Council and many more. Projects include Salford Crescent Masterplan, the Carrington Relief Road and a number of others.

They are looking for design engineers to assist the Senior and Principal engineers in the detailed design and delivery of these schemes. They are looking for engineers that are career minded, technically gifted but still willing to learn new skills and grow as an engineer. If you have experience of using Civil 3D this will really help when applying but if you don't, please do not be put off applying as they are willing to offer second to none software training on Civil 3D and others like MicroDrainage and CAD 2D/3D.

Key accountabilities

• Undertake detailed design checks on highway and drainage improvement schemes,
• Provide, assistance in producing S278 and S38 legal agreements,
• Undertake site supervision of highway and Drainage improvement works,
• Provide assistance with Highway responses to Planning Applications,
• Assist in the update of the definitive map and statement,
• Undertake technical design work including the production of electronic drawings using AutoCAD and other related software.
• Take ownership of and resolve problems
• Provide technical administrative support including project administration
• Prepare technical reports for both internal and external purposes.
• Build and maintain excellent relationships with internal and external business partners, customers and clients
• Assist with continuous improvement in the services provided by the team
• Assist less experienced colleagues in ensuring compliance with pre-defined standards
• Take ownership of personal development in order to build professional capability Plan and prioritise own activities to ensure effective utilisation of time

Skills & experience

• You will ideally have a higher education qualification in civil engineering and at least 3 years proved experience.
• Experience in the use of AutoCAD
• Ideally experience of either working at or with a Local Authority
• Experience in working on both Local Authority and developer-led schemes as part of a multi-disciplinary team
• Civil Engineering design to DMRB standards and Sewers for Adoption
• Understanding of the CDM Regulations
• Experience in Highways Development Management,
• Knowledge of public rights of way,
• Play a supporting role to the Principal Engineer
• Ability to work to tight timescales and budgets
• Team player
• Well organised
