Job Details
The Chief Building Official plans, organizes, and manages the Building Division within the Community Development Department reviewing plans, issuing permits, and inspecting construction of private development in order to enforce building codes, regulations, ordinances, and other requirements; and performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:
Education: Equivalent to an Associate’s degree with coursework in building design, inspection, construction, or a related field. A Bachelor’s Degree in civil engineering, architecture, or other related field is highly desirable
Experience: Five years’ experience in building construction, plans examination, building inspection, land development, or other related work, including two years in a supervisory capacity.
LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE
Possession of a valid California Class C Driver’s License and a satisfactory driving record are conditions of initial and continued employment.
Possession of a current International Code Council (ICC) Certification as a Certified Building Official, or equivalent certification, is a condition of initial and continued employment.
Possession of a current CASQA Construction General Permit Qualified SWPPP Practitioner (QSP) or Qualified SWPPP Developer (QSD) is highly desirable.
Possession of current ICC Plans Examiner certifications, in addition to certifications in any of the following areas: certified access specialist (CASp), safety assessment worker, building inspector, electrical inspector, plumbing inspector or mechanical inspector, are highly desirable.
