Our client, United Utilities , is looking to recruit an Energy Generation Field Service Engineer the role will be based at their Warrington site.
Job Purpose
As an Energy Generation Field Service Engineer, you will operate, maintain, overhaul, install and optimise the energy generation asset base (A fleet of spark ignition and dual fuel CHP engines; the gas to grid assets; flare stacks; siloxane removal plants; carbon vessels and all associated ancillaries,) whilst ensuring that the Energy Generation asset base achieves the availability, quality, generation targets, performance, and safety standards of the Company.
Job Accountabilities
* To carry out regular diagnosis, adjustment, and optimisation of the energy generation asset base in order to achieve optimum performance.
* To diagnose and rectify faults and ensure correct operation of the energy generation asset base thereby optimising the availability of the assets along with performing planned maintenance activities on the energy generation assets to achieve the required levels of availability.
* To have a complete understanding of the energy generation assets' control systems in order to have the capability to make any operational changes to these assets by adjusting set points so to optimise the performance, whilst understanding the consequences of any set point changes to the energy generation plant and other processes linked to it i.e.; gas production, sludge throughput and digestion process.
* To have an understanding of the commercial consequences of under performance during critical period and ensuring best possible performance during these periods.
* To carry out proactive and reactive maintenance activities on the Energy Generation asset base within a primary skill with limited capacity in a secondary and tertiary skill, keeping downtime to a minimum thus optimising the availability.
* To have a good understanding of the combustion process and the consequence of gas quality on the reliability of the CHP engines along with carrying out regular diagnosis using multiple data sources (oil sampling, gas quality, engine emissions, changes in engine readouts and data from linked processes) to adjust and optimise the CHP assets to achieve optimum performance of the CHP process.
* To liaise with site operations to match the performance of the energy generation assets with the requirements of the site processes with the delivery of targeted power production.
* Analyse the combustion process of the energy generation assets and carry out adjustments to any control systems to deliver efficient operation within the manufacturers predetermined tolerances whilst adhering to the regulatory limits set in the site PPC permit.
* Have key input into, and where agreed, implement recommended solutions to recurring maintenance or operational problems.
* To organise the day to day activities of contractors, apprentices and other trades used in supporting the energy generation operation, providing an environment for effective time utilisation within the department.
* To assist and guide engineers, contractors, apprentices and other trades in operational, electrical, mechanical and instrumentation activities to enhance the standard of the technical expertise within the department, and the company's on-going commitment to operate and maintain the energy generation assets.
* To provide accurate and complete plant performance and maintenance information for subsequent data entry into the Company system
* To be involved in innovative solutions to implement new technology application across the renewable energy platform, enabling the company to gain advantage of current market opportunities.
* To support the companies Energy Generation production facilities throughout the region. In addition, good relations with suppliers and contractors are necessary to ensure a quality service.
* The energy generation department is called upon to provide a 24 hour service for emergency operational and repair work to the energy generation asset base and will be expected to take part in a standby rota to operate in line with current operational practices.
Knowledge and Skills
* Time served in relevant engineering discipline, HNC, ONC or equivalent in a relevant technical area along with relevant engine manufacturer's specific training.
* Experience in operating and maintaining HV/LV power generation installations, alternators, heat recovery systems, and ignition and control systems and knowledge of SSW, company policy, statutory regulations, operation procedures, maintenance procedures, administration procedures.
* Practical knowledge of fault finding and repairs to engines and ancillary plant.
* Competency in a flexible skill role to NVQ level 3,
* Good organisation, communication, and computer skills mandatory.
