Tenure-Track Associate Professor/Assistant Professor in Infrastructure Technology in Construction in the Department of Civil Engineering

Applications are invited for appointment as Tenure-Track Associate Professor/Assistant Professor in Infrastructure Technology in Construction in the Department of Civil Engineering (Ref.: 511436), to commence on July 1, 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter, on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal and with consideration for tenure before the expiry of a second three-year contract. Tenure consideration at an earlier timeline is possible for outstanding candidates. 

The Department of Civil Engineering is one of the five engineering departments in the Faculty of Engineering.  The Department has a world class reputation for leading research and teaching in civil engineering, and has nurtured high-calibre leaders for the community as well as the civil engineering profession. 

The Department is ranked 19th in the world under the QS University Subject Rankings 2021 in the subject area of civil and structural engineering.  The Department is active in research in construction management and transportation engineering, geotechnical engineering, structural engineering, and water and environmental engineering.  Information about the Department can be obtained at http://www.civil.hku.hk/ .

Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering, architectural engineering, construction engineering and management or a related field, with relevant experience in teaching and research. 

A strong background in infrastructure technology and/or information technology in construction, including but not limited to digital twin, building information modelling, geographic information system, artificial intelligence, big data analytics, internet-of-things, sensors, blockchain, automation and robotics, smart infrastructure, sustainable construction, net zero carbon, etc. is required and experience in the area of smart and liveable cities would be desirable.

The appointee will be expected to teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses and supervise research students and projects.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At the current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
