The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and the School of Mining and Petroleum Engineering at the University of Alberta invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Automation and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Construction within The Hole School of Construction Engineering. Applicants should have research expertise in the application of robotics or AI to improve performance of construction operations. Background or know-how in academic industry partnerships is an asset. This position is part of the University of Alberta’s priority to build a diverse faculty; thus, candidates from traditionally underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged to apply.

A PhD in Construction Engineering or a closely related field is required. They are expected to be or become a licensed Professional Engineer through the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA, https://www.apega.ca/). Licensure must be obtained within five years from the date of hire.

Candidates must possess a record of publication in reputable, peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings. The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, including the School of Mining and Petroleum Engineering, aims to maintain its position among the top schools in North America. With a present complement of more than 60 faculty members, research in the Department is vigorous and covers all major areas of Civil, Environmental, Mining, and Petroleum Engineering. Our graduate program attracts outstanding students from the best schools worldwide and presently has an enrollment of over 500 students, including approximately 200 PhD students. The undergraduate programs in Civil and Environmental Engineering, Mining Engineering, and Petroleum Engineering enroll close to 1000 students.
