Napa, California, is located 50 miles northeast of San Francisco in the beautiful Napa Valley. This world-renowned valley runs through more than 30 miles of agricultural land speckled with hundreds of wineries and thousands of other businesses which support the vitality of an active community. The City of Napa is the business and residential hub of the Valley with a population of approximately 78,000.
The City of Napa is seeking an experienced Public Works professional with technical expertise and strong leadership skills to effectively manage and guide the Public Works engineering division towards achieving established goals. The ideal candidate will be approachable and a strong mentor that is comfortable engaging with internal and external stakeholders and prepared to develop recommendations and make decisions. The ideal candidate is emotionally intelligent, results oriented, and an excellent communicator with strong relationship-building skills. The City is looking for a leader who will serve as an example to staff and promote teamwork by creating an inclusive environment of trust and mutual respect and is skilled at optimizing diversity.
A typical way of gaining the requisite knowledge and abilities is: six (6) years of progressively responsible professional civil engineering experience to include three (3) years of administrative and supervisory responsibility coupled with the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or a closely related field. Experience in a municipal or public setting and a master’s degree in civil engineering or business or public administration are desirable.
Special Requirements: Possession of a valid Certificate of Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer in the State of California. Registration in the State of California as a Land Surveyor is desirable, if civil engineering license does not include land surveying. Possession of a class C driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record. Independent travel is required. Attendance at evening meetings necessitates work outside normal working hours.
The annual salary range for the Deputy Public Works Director position is $157,188-$189,901; placement within this range is dependent upon qualifications. The City also provides an excellent array of benefits.
