To reach net zero by 2050, we're looking for people who can bring big ideas, new skills and innovative thinking to help us build a world that's more sustainable and inclusive for you, your family, the community you live in and for generations to come.

So join us on our journey to net zero. Help us power change.

What is the Role?

As a Project Engineer, your role will focus on the engineering of distributed energy systems to support large buildings, campuses or developments across different geographies (projects) and clients with a focus on retrofitting systems to existing sites. A large proportion of the projects will be energy performance contracts across these different projects & clients. You'll combine an understanding of the engineering tasks necessary for the successful development of distributed energy systems that meet client objectives - for example carbon reduction, Capex optimisation, revenue generation or Opex reduction.

In this role you'll undertake the detailed design of energy infrastructure (RIBA Stage 4) and use your understanding of competing design considerations, such as cost and efficiency. The Energy Performance Engineer will discuss and appraise these considerations in the context of client objectives or specific SSE investment criteria. Fundamental to this role is a strong understanding of distributed energy systems (ground or roof mounted solar PV, district heating & cooling, heat pumps, building services and energy storage and so on).

Other responsibilities of the project engineer will include working on investment grade energy audits, the detailed design of individual energy systems (e.g. rooftop solar, lighting, air source heat pumps or BMS), working with project development managers to appraise investment decisions for SSE, liaising with consultants & subcontractors and report write-up throughout project stages. You'll support the delivery teams during pre and post-construction with engineering deliverables.

As Energy Performance Engineer, you'll work within a developing smart energy systems team which has an established track record of delivering energy performance contracts over many years. Its important that you enjoy working within a small engineering team and like stretching your capabilities beyond the daily norm e.g. developing marketing material or delivering innovation projects.

This role reports to the Smart Energy Systems Engineering Team Lead.
