Overview:
Harrison Engineering LLC is a civil / structural engineering firm in the northwest Fort Worth area. We have an immediate opening for a full time Civil (Structural) Engineer . The ideal candidate must be a licensed P.E. with a minimum of 5 years of civil / structural design experience, including field and forensic investigations, and technical report writing experience.
A strong civil/structural design background in residential buildings is required. Most of our projects are small and fast-track. Most time will be spent in the office on a computer. This job will consist, mostly, of writing engineering reports, with some minor engineering design, calculations, and possible light CAD work.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Review documentation from 3rd party field inspections, such as: photos, measurements, field notes, etc.
- Determine the extent of structural issues and deficiencies in single family residential structures. Structural issues may include: foundation issues, water intrusions, cracked beams or posts, and other deficiencies. Systems and components may include: foundation, structural framing, building envelope, roof, walls, retaining walls, and site grading.
- Write unbiased engineering reports in layman's terms that document causes of failure, extent of loss, recommended remediation, and estimated costs-to-cure.
- Analyze potential issues involving different types of structures and construction problems involving residential homes and properties.
- Apply engineering principles, scientific methods, and practices in accordance with codes and industry standards to solve complex problems.
- Determine the cause, origin, and extent of structural failures, water intrusions, construction defects and building system failures, including: foundation, framing, envelope, roof, wall and glazing, retaining walls, and site grading.
- Ability to support conclusions by appropriate investigative evidence, documentation, code references, engineering analysis and calculations.
- Must conduct business in a professional, honest, and ethical fashion at all times.
- Design structures, buildings, and foundations for residential and commercial projects.
- Analyze buildings from roof to foundation for lateral (wind, seismic, etc) loads, and vertical loads (gravity, snow, etc) to comply with IBC/IRC codes and create structural calculations if required.
- Other duties as assigned by management.
Position Requirements:
- B.S. in Civil Engineering (with emphasis in structures).
- Minimum of two (2) years of civil / structural professional engineering experience.
- P. E. license.
- Must possess strong technical report writing skills.
- Knowledge and experience in design and analysis of wood, concrete, steel, and masonry structures.
- Knowledge of proper grading and drainage techniques for foundations and buildings.
- Knowledge of International Building/Residential Codes (IBC/IRC).
- Must have excellent overall computer PC skills and Microsoft Windows, including: spreadsheets, word processor, file management, and Internet.
- Proficiency in using AutoCAD (required).
- U.S. citizen.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift 50 lbs.
- Ability to climb ladders and inspect roofs, if required.
- Ability to maneuver in and around buildings, foundation crawlspaces, and in confined spaces, if required.
- Ability to drive to site locations and maintain a valid drivers license.
- Ability to sit at a computer for long period of time.
