Saint Louis University’s Civil Engineering Program invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the area of environmental engineering with an anticipated start date of August 1, 2022.  The program is seeking dynamic, collegial, collaborative, and creative applicants that are dedicated to performing ground-breaking, externally-funded research in the field of environmental engineering with the potential to build an exceptional national/international research reputation.  Experience in the areas of water quality, water/wastewater treatment, biological or physicochemical processes, system dynamics/complex adaptive systems modeling, sustainable development, or related areas are preferred.  Applicants should also be motivated to deliver engaging, hands-on learning experiences to undergraduate and graduate engineering students in a team-oriented, student-focused environment.  Preference will be given to applicants at the Assistant Professor level.  However, candidates with exceptional qualifications may be considered for appointment at a higher level.

 

The successful candidate will serve as a primary investigator for SLU’s Water Access, Technology, Environment, and Resources (WATER) Institute (www.slu.edu/water).  The WATER Institute is an interdisciplinary research institute that focuses on three main areas:  1) water in the built environment, 2) aquatic ecosystems, and 3) social justice issues related to water.  The position is an excellent opportunity to develop a strong interdisciplinary research program in a supportive, nurturing environment designed to ensure success. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with diverse researchers, attract world-class students, and make significant research contributions to address critical environmental challenges.  Applicants are particularly sought with diverse backgrounds and an interest in contributing to outreach and mission-oriented community engagement activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, deliver, and assess engineering courses in support of the college’s teaching mission
  • Establish a vibrant and productive research program and actively engage in scholarly activities including publishing in peer reviewed journals, dissemination at conferences, and seeking external funding
  • Contribute to the growth of the WATER Institute through water-related research and outreach
  • Create inclusive, engaging teaching and research experiences to develop socially conscious engineers and scientists
  • Mentor undergraduate and graduate students 
  • Participate in departmental, college, university and professional service activities

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Ph.D. in Civil or Environmental Engineering or a closely related field
  • Demonstrated excellence in research and scholarly activity, including peer reviewed journal and conference papers, grant writing, mentoring students, and developing an independent research agenda
  • Excellence in teaching as demonstrated through previous teaching and teaching preparation experiences
  • Desire to engage with SLU’s mission-driven learning and outreach activities
  • U.S. citizen or current (permanent) resident

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BS degree in civil, environmental, or closely related field.
  • Post-doctoral fellowship experience in environmental engineering, or a related disciplinary area
  • Relevant teaching experience that promotes hands-on, experiential learning
  • Established record of interdisciplinary collaboration and impactful research work
  • Demonstrated ability and vision to collaborate and build a multidisciplinary initiative in pursuit of enhancing undergraduate and graduate education

Covid 19/Booster Vaccination Requirement:

Saint Louis University requires COVID-19 vaccinations and a booster dose for all students, staff, and faculty who are physically present on our St. Louis campuses. Proof of full vaccination is required before the start of employment in order to work at Saint Louis University. If you are not vaccinated, you are required to begin the vaccination process at the time of your first day of employment and submit proof of full vaccination within 30 days of your start date. Exemptions may be granted on the grounds of religious beliefs or medical circumstances. Failure to comply with the vaccine requirement within 30 days of an employee’s start date will result in termination of the employment.  Proof of vaccine will be submitted through an online portal made available to you during your Workday onboarding tasks.

The University will require all students, faculty and staff to obtain a booster vaccine dose prior to their start date, This applies to:

•             All adults over the age of 18 years who completed their vaccine series with Pfizer or Moderna at least 6 months ago. 

•             Those who received the J&J vaccine at least two months ago.
