The City of Lompoc is seeking a Principal Civil Engineer in its Public Works Department to lead the capital improvement project staff team of engineers and engineering technicians. The engineering staff works closely with the rest of the public works team, as well as the other City departments to benefit the entire community in solving a wide range of problems and guiding solutions to successful completion. We identify needs; scope and budget improvements; design, manage construction, and evaluate performance of all kinds of infrastructure projects including pavement rehabilitation, utility upgrades, traffic control devices, new City building facilities and major rehabilitations, drainage improvements, and many more.
The Principal Civil Engineer proactively supports the staff and the City management team in best serving the community’s needs, designs and manages projects, and reports to the Assistant Public Works Director/City Engineer. The individual often leads efforts in determining what projects are most needed, how to best tailor the projects for optimal results, how to fund and budget the projects, and either personally performs or oversees the design and construction management. In addition to on the job training, the City encourages its engineering staff to complete at least 40 hours of training suited to the specific needs of individual staff members’ professional service, provided by the City each year. The Principal Civil Engineer gains leadership, management, communication, and a wide variety of other work experience, continually coordinating with staff members, stakeholders, other organizations, and the public in delivering service and infrastructure to the Lompoc community.
Growing increasingly effective, trusting, and collaborative relationships is critical for every member of the City’s engineering team. We are dedicated to serving in the best interest of the public, meeting the needs of the City, supporting each other, and growing professionally. We are committed to finding the right solutions; efficiently designing, constructing, and implementing them to a high standard; working with and following the direction of elected officials and City management; and positively leading our teams and projects to success. Bring your technical skills and “can do” attitude and join us in serving Lompoc with excellence.
