We are looking for a Civil Engineer to join our growing civils team in either Bristol or Cardiff. Our Civil and Structural teams in these two offices work very closely together and the collective civils team acts as a regional hub.

We are delivering significant projects in most sectors across Wales and the SW of England, such as the flagship commercial development in the centre of Bristol, St Mary Le Port and the huge Pentre Awel mixed use development in Carmarthenshire

We are looking to grow our team from the current 8 to around 12 strong, and need Engineers to lead the civils aspects of these sorts of projects, and to contribute to the national expertise

The successful candidate will be a problem solver who is eager to learn from & mentor peers, someone who communicates well with people at all levels and champions teamwork & Innovation.

Key Roles & Responsibilities:
  • Flood Risk Assessments and Drainage Strategy reports, Drainage Design, Pavement and local highways design, Section 106, 278 Agreements, and other activities associated with the civil engineering input to property development.
  • Ownership and production of schematic and concept designs, as well as detailed designs, calculations, and Building Regulation submissions within defined project timescales
  • Oversight of junior engineers and technicians in the production of calculations and drawing information and undertaking quality reviews of information prior to issue.
  • Liaising with other disciplines within Curtins (ie Structures and Geo-Enviro) to ensure Curtins' design is fully co-ordinated.
  • Liaising directly with Clients and Contractors. Attending Design Team Meetings and site meetings as necessary
  • Liaising with other 3rd parties , such as the EA, Statutory and Local Authorities, and Planning Departments in the development of designs
  • Developing relationships with clients and other professionals with the aim of identifying and securing new project opportunities and helping to expand the discipline.
  • When undertaking a Project Lead role, managing and coordinating all of Curtins input to the project, controlling resourcing, undertaking invoicing and cost management.

Essential Requirements

· Accredited degree in Civil Engineering

· Hold or be working towards Chartered status (MICE/ AMICE or equivalent).

· IT literate with experience of design software packages, such as PDS Flow, Microdrainage, and Civil 3D, and also Microsoft Office programmes.

· Technically competent and understand the fundamental requirements of all aspects of drainage, pavement, and local highway design

· Experience of negotiating Sectional Agreements, 106, 38, 278 etc

· Experience of supervising junior staff e.g junior engineers and technicians.

· Hold a valid driving license

· Good knowledge of SUDS and the Welsh SAB process would be an advantage.

· Experience of technical masterplanning on significant development sites would also be an advantage.
