The role
The Highways team impact the journeys of millions across the UK, by working in partnership with a range of clients and providing consultancy design services for Strategic and Local Highway networks. Working on both major design projects and local network improvements and undertake services on national to local frameworks; including those with Highways England Area 10,13 and 14 to the A66 dualling programme and the Midlands Highways Alliance (MHA). They are passionate about the highways projects that they design and take pride in seeing our towns and cities thrive by improving connectivity, journey times and quality of life.
Key accountabilities
Due to increased workload they are recruiting a Principal Civil Engineer in Leeds. The successful candidate will undertake and oversee production of Civil design, managing the Civil elements on a number of highways design projects. This role could be purely technically focused or for those wishing to take a people management role, lead a dedicated Civil design engineering team of 15-20 people. The team design and deliver a wide range of Highway design schemes across the UK.

Skills & experience
- Work with the Technical Director, delivering communities of practice initiatives within the Bristol design team
- Provide advice, guidance and supervision as appropriate to an internal technical team, operational managers, clients and suppliers.
- Work with the Technical Director to deliver local initiatives aimed at improving the technical and professional competencies of team members
- Potentially, assume the role of people manager
- Act as a mentor to more junior employees * Act as engineering lead or engineering day-to-day main contact for projects
- Take responsibility for the technical content of project deliverables
Additional Information
- You have a Bachelors or Masters' degree in an appropriate subject
- You are Chartered or Incorporated, held with an appropriate professional body
- You are capable of acting as an engineering lead or engineering day-to-day main contact for a project
- You are able to demonstrate developed experience and expertise within the relevant technical field, probably gained in a Senior/Principal/Associate Engineer role or equivalent
- You are an accredited trainer with a relevant professional institution, e.g. Delegated Engineer for the Institution of Civil Engineers
- You are able to demonstrate an ability to produce or oversee the production of technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements
- You are experienced in undertaking project related tasks associated with health, safety and welfare, e.g. Construction (Design and Management) Regulations
- You are experienced in the application of technical governance procedures within a consulting engineering environment
- You have knowledge of technical governance procedures and how they are applied within a consulting engineering environment
