General Summary: Under the supervision of a registered Civil Engineer, coordinates and performs all phases of engineering work related to the design, construction and maintenance of City Project or systems. Provide technical oversight of consultants or local agency staff performing engineering work related to the development of City projects. Tasks may include:
Directs and participates in the difficult technical engineering designs and drafting work by preparing and reviewing engineering plans, specifications, designs and estimates for construction and maintenance projects and systems
Plans, coordinates, and prepares complete bid packages for project construction, including public works project plans, specifications, cost estimates, consultant contracts, authorization to solicit bids, contract awards, and other associated actions; ensures that assigned projects are completed within scope, cost, schedule, budgeted resources, and departmental standards and practices
Performs highly specialized design, research, or analysis on a project-by-project basis. Plans and directs the collection of data, studies and investigations; oversees data collection form and content; reviews and analyzes data collected; prepares a variety of engineering and safety reports
Performs complex engineering calculations and prepared related estimates of time and material costs as well as invoices for reimbursement from funding agencies
Participates in the preparation of project budgets, estimating cash flow projections and providing cost justifications;
Builds and maintains effective working relationships with co-workers, other City employees and the public
Interprets and applies relevant codes, ordinances, rules and regulations
Assigns, reviews schedules and evaluates the work performance of subordinate staff
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering or closely related field
Three (3) years of experience in professional engineering work
