Job Outline:

We are seeking a proactive, experienced Environmental Engineer with excellent communications skills to support the Environmental management team, which will include proactively working on any Environmental Issues and Chemical Safety (COSHH) requirements of Qioptiq Ltd. The Environmental and COSHH Engineer will monitor activities to maintain environmental compliance and minimise environmental risks of activities.

Key Responsibilities:

The main duties with this position include:
  • Implementing and maintaining ISO14001 Environment Management Systems (EMS)
  • Managing Environmental permits IPPC and LAPPC - reporting and dealing with regulators
  • Liaising with external bodies - EA, LA and DCC
  • Manage waste contracts
  • Carrying out and review COSHH assessments
  • Work with Occupational health dept. regarding occupational hygiene/monitoring
  • MSDS collation, updating and e-library management
  • Allocation and verification of MSR (Management System Report)
  • Preparation for BSI audits/EA audits
  • Control & monitor internal environmental audits
  • Assess & control contracts for LEV's & stack emissions
  • Legal up-dating and compliance checks, manage the legal register
  • Produce quarterly Environcom (internal SHE newsletter)
  • Chairing quarterly environmental meetings
  • Produce annual submission report to the EA & LA
  • Providing help, advice, internal training and support on all aspects of Environment and COSHH.

Personal Specification:

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate:
  • AIEMA membership
  • H&S experience with NEBOSH General Certificate as a minimum
  • Basic knowledge of Occupational Hygiene principles
  • Secure understanding of Environmental Management Systems (EMS)
  • Candidates will have previous experience of working as an environmental, or an HSE officer within a similar or chemical industry.
