About the Role

This role is also available in Motherwell (ML1 4YT).

We are seeking to expand our Ground Engineering team with the addition of a Senior Geo Environmental Engineer. You will be required to produce comprehensive land quality and geotechnical packages for all aspects of civil and structural engineering projects.

You will have knowledge and understanding of relevant codes of practice, industry standards and have broad understanding of environmental legislation. You will have a through appreciation of the planning process, regulatory authorities, and planning conditions.

You will have a proven track record managing junior staff, providing support, training, and mentorship.

You will undertake all aspects of geo environmental work on a range of project sizes across the following sectors: Rail, Power, Defence, Highways, Aviation, Public Sector and Life Sciences.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities
  • Keep up to date with land quality trends / customer awareness / techniques.
  • Preparation of desk study reports.
  • Design and specification investigations for land quality and geotechnical aspects of schemes.
  • Supervision and oversight of intrusive ground investigations.
  • Preparation of ground models and interpretation of geotechnical parameters.
  • Preparation of qualitative and quantitative human health and controlled waters risk assessments and gas risk assessments.
  • Preparation of waste management assessments.
  • Preparation of soil & groundwater remediation options appraisals and strategies.
  • Mentor and support junior members of the team.

Skills and Experience

Essential
  • Ability to perform all technical and departmental duties as listed above.
  • Possess a good undergraduate degree in a relevant subject (Geology, Earth Science, Chemistry, Environmental or Engineering related discipline).
  • A higher level qualification such as an MSc or PHD would be advantageous.
  • Membership of an appropriate body (GeolSoc, CIWEM, IES etc.)
  • Previous soil consulting experience including a mixture of site and office-based work.
  • Conversant with current technical codes, standards and responsibilities under CDM and health and safety regulations.
  • Proven ability to work within a fully integrated, multi-discipline design team.

Desirable
  • Experience of project delivery within some of the sectors we operate in.
  • Full PTS Certification
  • Full UK Driving Licence
