Associate Structural Engineer - Structural Engineering Team Lead

A new opportunity has arisen with one of the UKs most respected consultancies, who are seeking to hire a Structural Engineer to take charge of their London office.

The team has projects within the leisure, education, residential, commercial and health sectors, with both national developers and small, local clients. Work could range from designing new buildings, through to amendments of existing schemes through refurbishment and maintenance.

The role:

You will be responsible for managing the Structures team in London, and delivering projects to surpass client expectations. Your immediate requirements will be to step in to various multidisciplinary projects, and ensure the team produces accurate structural designs. Having oversight of project delivery from initial conception to construction, you will ensure that work is produced within budgets and deadlines. Future responsibilities would be to seek out more work for the team as it grows under your guidance, by engaging with existing, or new clients.

The Candidate:

Successful candidates must have heavy experience with structural design or analysis software, which could include Tedds, Tekla, Revit, Navisworks or others. Coming from a strong technical background, you will be building on your previous design works by sharing knowledge and skillsets with junior members. Ideally, your design portfolio would include a range of medium and large high rises structures, in the residential, educational and commercial settings.

Moving forward, you will be expected to provide full technical oversight of the London structures team, so would need to have demonstratable experience in managing, leading, mentoring and developing junior engineers and technicians. You must be a clear communicator, both to internal staff and external stakeholders clients and staff will look to you for technical and project queries, and it will be part of your responsibility to ensure these are resolved successfully.

Job Description:

- Be Chartered, or well en-route to Chartership with the IStructE
- Previous experience in line management/leading teams
- Be a confident communicator
- Have commercial awareness, paying particular attention to budgets, deadlines, and client satisfaction
- Come from a strong technical background, and be able to alter designs with Tedds, Tekla, Revit, Navisworks or other software
- Have excellent problem solving and negotiating skills
- Have an understanding of the Manchester market/client base (beneficial)
- Be willing to provide training and development to junior staff
- Be open to developing a team under your guidance (in due time)

This is a permanent opportunity to join one of the UKs leading consultancies at an Associate level, working within their Building Structures team in London. This would be an ideal position for someone currently working at a Principal or Associate level in the London region or it's outskirts, in Kent, Surrey or Essex.
