Job Description - Assistant Structural Engineer

Our successful Engineering and Consultancy (E&C) UK and Europe business is looking to recruit an Assistant Structural Engineer for our Birminghmam office. If you are enthusiastic, driven and thrive on working on some of the most exciting and varied energy projects in the Offshore Oil and Gas and Renewables sectors, then this could be the role for you.

Our Design and Engineering teams are key to the multi-disciplinary design and assurance services that we provide to our Clients in the Renewables, Conventional Generation, Oil & Gas, Energy from Waste, Energy Storage and Petrochemical Markets. This combined market is providing exciting opportunities to work within large multi-disciplinary teams delivering complex, innovative solutions.

Our Offshore Structures team is key to the multi-disciplinary design and assurance services that we provide to our clients. The structural team work primarily in the Offshore Renewables sector, including front end design, advanced numerical assessment and consultancy studies. We provide engineering support to new projects and to our clients existing offshore assets.

This is a varied role and will include everything from hand calculations to linear and nonlinear finite element analysis. The role includes working with others to identify and develop new technical methodologies as well as communicating and maintaining client relationships.

You will manage your own cost and time targets to deliver an efficient, high calibre engineering service and be able to prepare the associated clear, concise, high quality reports. You will be working in a team of very experienced engineers to execute projects and will have the opportunity to develop your capabilities in line with the requirements of the Atkins career paths.

Assistant Structural Engineer - Birmingham

Our client are looking to appoint an Assistant Structural Engineer into their Birmingham Building Structures team to help deliver ambitious plans to develop and grow the Building Design practice in the Midlands and across the UK.

Our client provides multidisciplinary engineering services and integrated solutions across a wide range of projects relating to buildings and infrastructure. Drawing upon a diverse skill set and a proven track record of delivery they are playing a leading role in some of the world's most challenging and exciting engineering projects across sectors including: Education, Commercial, Residential, Transportation, Defence, and Energy.

Due to a number of secured projects and significant pipeline opportunities in the region they are looking to grow their team.

Requirements:

1st or Upper 2nd Class Honours Degree (or equivalent) in Civil/Structural Engineering.

A minimum of 1 years post graduate experience working as a structural engineer ideally in the buildings sector.

Working to achieve Chartered Engineer status having commenced the core objectives.

Experience in the design of elements and structures using the conventional engineering materials (steel, concrete, timber, masonry) to current Eurocodes and British Standards.

Strong problem solving abilities.

Commercial awareness.

Good communication skills, verbal and written (for report writing purposes).

Ability to use a variety of structural analysis software (ideally Tekla Structural Designer and Autodesk Robot) and draughting software (ideally Revit and AutoCAD).

Ability to work both independently and as part of a multi-discipline team.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities will include:

Undertaking structural engineering analysis and design under the supervision of a senior engineer

Production of structural engineering calculations to both Eurocodes and British Standards

Drafting structural specifications

Carrying out structural surveys

Working with CAD Technicians to produce relevant structural information
