The position of structural engineer intern will work alongside with our structural engineering team with developing specifications and instructions for drafting and designing of improvements and additions to existing residential and commercial buildings, including new construction in various industries. Minimum hours of internship shall be 16 hours per week. Other duties include but not limited to the following:
Tasks
- Assemble documentation packages and produce drawing sets; Confer with engineering staff and other personnel to resolve problems; Draft floor plans, sections, elevations, and structural details as required for permit approval by local building jurisdictions. Conduct on-site assessments of existing building to obtain as-built information and dimensions of floor plans/elevations; Explain drawings to production or construction teams and provide adjustments as necessary; Prepare and interpret specifications, plan check comments, and other factors that are directly related to the scope of work to the client and/or assistant designers;
- Maintain current knowledge of all building codes applicable for structural design;
- Use a variety of engineering software to perform structural calculations for type V construction projects.
Qualifications and requirements
- Minimum 100 units earned toward an Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering at an accredited university; Ability to give full attention to project details, and to use logic and reason to create feasible and economical structural designs; Ability to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
