Structural Design & Temporary Works Design / Technical Engineer, based at HO, to work with a small team and work directly with clients. Successful contractor with £100 m turnover on London and City sites. Civil / Structural Engineer degree; experience with contractors and in design office. Practical approach to design. To £110k plus excellent package. Stevenage area

Structural Design and Temporary Works Design. Immediate requirement for a growing division of this respected Contractor. You will probably be an experienced Civil Engineer from a Design or Contracting background with a proven track record in Temporary Works Design.

The Contractor specialises in Substructure, Superstructure, and Infrastructure Works, working mainly in London and the south-east. You will be aiming for chartership if not already qualified and will be supported in your training to achieve that goal.

Experience of Temporary Works in any of these areas of Formwork & Falsework Design, checking & advising on suitable materials, Steel Sheet Pile Cofferdams, Military Trestling, heavy timbering, Formwork and Falsework to Deep Basements, Abutments and Bridge decks will all be relevant.

You should ideally have a good all-round background in Structural Design, whilst applicants with the following experience, knowledge and skills will be suitable:

* BSc / BEng / HND qualified Civil Engineer

* Ability to design in Steel, RC, Masonry and Timber

* Previous Temporary Works Design experience in Formworks, Falseworks, Scaffolding, Foundations and Ground Supports

* Ability to produce Detailed calculations and drawings of Structural elements

* Minimum 5 years' experience in Temporary Works

* Proficient in Auto-cad

* Capable of meeting deadlines

* Ability to work in a team environment

* Work on own, as required, and able to use your own initiative

* Full UK Driving license

Key Responsibilities and accountabilities:

* Piling and foundation design

* Retaining wall design

* Propping design

* Temporary work design including support to existing structures

* Supervision and management of all design work

* Supervision and management of external designers including cost control

* Check calculations/drawings/design solutions prepared by others and comment

* Visit site as appropriate to inspect temporary works installations

* Management and training of the Temporary Works Coordinators

* Coordination and management of Health & Safety matters associated with design

* Meeting CDM requirements

* Agreeing fees, preparing contracts and engaging external design consultants

* Work with the pre-construction team on tenders and present cost-effective design solutions

* Attend internal and external design meetings to suit clients and internal project teams

* Provide training and assistance to junior staff members

The role will involve some of these aspects:

* Managing and designing projects

* Supervising graduate engineers on all types of temporary works projects

* Attending client and site meetings

* Occasionally demonstrating temporary works procedures as part of in-house training schemes.

* Design and detailing of all temporary works together with the supervision of installation and erection.
