The Public Works Engineering Division is recruiting for an Appointive position of Associate Engineer within the Capital Project Delivery and Asset Management section.
The Associate Engineer will
- Perform engineering duties in the preparation, implementation, coordination, evaluation and analysis of engineering projects, studies, systems, and functions
- Support collecting and analyzing existing and new data for the purpose of tracking pavement conditions
- Perform engineering design services and support management and delivery of active transportation projects, arterial and residential street improvement projects, trail projects, and other infrastructure projects
- Work independently under the direction of the Pavement Manager and Assistant Division Manager and with various consultants, design engineers, technicians, construction managers, inspectors, and other staff within the City of Tacoma
The Associate Engineer’s work will include coordinating and conducting engineering and other studies, working with the Pavement Manager to collect and analyze technical and asset management data, complete mapping, and provide reporting. The position will also implement and coordinate procedures, functions and activities for the Asset Management program. Duties may include assisting Project Managers in developing and managing project scope, budget and schedule; procurement of consultants and contractors; internal and external project communications; project stakeholder outreach; report preparation; project presentation; grant application preparation; and other duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills and work productively with a wide variety of individuals and team members. GIS, CADD, and database experience along with excellent verbal and written communication skills are highly desirable.

Qualifications
Four (4) year degree from an accredited college or university in civil mechanical, or electrical engineering, or a related field.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Engineer in Training Certificate for advancement to pay step four or higher.
Step 4 * Annual Salary Range - 87,630 - 90,958
Some positions may require a valid Washington Driver's License at the time of appointment with maintenance thereafter.

Develop methods of data collection and results interpretation. As necessary, implement results of research studies or programs with an appropriate and effective course of action based upon outcome or findings.
COMMUNICATIONS
Prepare and present effective oral and written communications for professional and general public use.
LEADERSHIP
Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with co-workers, the general public, city, county, state and federal agencies while coordinating research in support of assigned department programs. Establish, coordinate and direct work teams to accomplish assigned tasks to a successful completion.
MANAGEMENT
Plan and organize work to meet schedules and timelines.
PROFESSIONALISM
Remain current on applicable laws, codes, regulations, policies and procedures within engineering field assigned.
TECHNICAL
Proficient in engineering practices and principles within field of expertise.
