Structural Engineer
To enable Capital to continue and develop our commitment to provide the highest quality professional service, we are currently seeking an exceptional structural engineer to join our team. Collaboration is a key element of our company values and we are looking for someone with a positive approach to team working both internally and externally.
As a key member of a small team of structural engineers within a multi-disciplinary environment, you will be expected to provide support to the Director for Structural Engineering in a variety of interesting projects, with responsibility for the design and management of individual projects. We also offer the chance to get involved in the wider workings of the business, where in time you may also be able to influence the direction and vision of the company.
Ideally, you'll already be Chartered, or close to achieving professional qualification and have strong demonstratable experience within the field of structural engineering.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
* Collaborate with other members of the design team to develop safe and integrated design solutions,
* Preparation of feasibility studies and option appraisal reports,
* Production of effective design solutions for a wide range of structural forms in all main structural materials,
* Prepare designs, drawings, reports and specifications suitable for construction using industry standard software,
* Undertake structural assessments and provision of advice in relation to structural integrity/ stability issues, including structural re-modelling and strengthening,
* Undertake structural surveys to identify the cause of defects and prepare reports including recommendations for remedial repair/ further investigations,
* Design and procurement of ground and other specialist investigations with representative sampling and testing, including preparation of interpretive reports,
* Carry out site inspections to ensure construction is carried out in accordance with design intentions, specifications and Employers Requirements,
* Attendance and contribution to design team and site progress meetings.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
* Chartered Membership of Institution of Structural/ Civil Engineers, or near Chartered Status with a degree in civil or structural engineering and a minimum of 3-5yrs post-qualification experience in a related role,
* experience of design in different materials and working on projects of varying sizes, with a broad knowledge of building defects, their repair and remediation, including the production of clear and comprehensive reports and specifications,
* experience of undertaking repair, refurbishment of high and medium-rise buildings, structural re-modelling, cladding/ over-roofing and concrete repairs,
* detailed knowledge and experience of diagnosis of common building defects, their cause and remediation,
* experience of procurement of ground investigation reports, including testing for contamination and advising on appropriate foundations and remediation measures,
* knowledge of current building legislation (e.g. Building Regulations, British Standard Codes of Practice/ Eurocodes and CDM Regulations),
* knowledge and experience of Microsoft Office, NBS and structural design software packages,
* good client/ customer relationship and people skills, with excellent presentation and communication skills,
* car user.
