An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Britten Norman. Due to ongoing growth, we are now recruiting for a Senior Structural Engineer to join our Southampton based team.

This role would give an opportunity to learn and become responsible for structural aspects of research and development activity in pursuit of improvements to the islander fleet of aircraft including the development of modifications from concept to completed and certified products.

Primary Tasks

Main tasks will include but are not limited to:
  • Ensure that the requisite structural design documentation, in the form of drawings and supporting documents, are compiled in accordance with the Design Office Handbook and associated Design Office procedures and regulatory requirements with regards to the applicable regulatory and/or customer certification specifications.
  • Liaison with all other technical specifications within the Design Office to produce coherent and comprehensive design solutions from concept to delivery.
  • Preparation of structural documentation and analysis in support of aircraft modifications
  • Check drawings, modifications, and other appropriate Company documents within the scope of authority of their individual approval, as promulgated in the Design Office Handbook.
  • Act as a CVE within the scope of individual approval or work towards attaining that status
  • Analyse and decide on courses of action for DQFs, NCRs, Production Permits and Concession relating to structural aspects.
  • Undertake any special tasks as directed by the Head of R&D or Technical Director
  • Understand the company's ethos, the purpose of the business and always maintain company confidentiality.
  • Comply with appropriate legislation, current regulations and Company policies and procedures as set out in the Company handbook and other publications communicated to you from time to time.
  • Undertake and successfully pass appropriate training applicable to your role as communicated to you from time to time and proactively identify training opportunities for your own advancement and self-improvement.
  • Proactively comply with and advocate company Health and Safety policies and procedures.


Key Skills and Attributes:
  • Detailed knowledge of structural design on GA Aircraft.
  • Structural analysis software experience.
  • IT competent (i.e., Microsoft applications Word, Excel, and Visio etc.
  • A working knowledge of CAA PT21J Design Approval
  • Knowledge of current airworthiness requirements (e.g., CS, FAR etc).
  • A positive attitude & enthusiastic to work in growing company
  • Proactive with strong attention to detail
  • Detailed knowledge of Structural Design would be essential but detailed knowledge of structural design on GA Aircraft would be most desirable.
  • Structural analysis software experience would be beneficial but IT competency is essential.
  • A working knowledge of CAA PT21J Design Approval would be beneficial.
  • Knowledge of current airworthiness requirements (e.g., CS, FAR etc) is desirable.


Qualification Requirements:
  • A degree or HND/HNC or OND/ONC in structural engineering, or extensive years related industrial experience would be essential for this role
  • Engineering apprenticeship in aircraft or similar allied industries would be beneficial to applicants but not a prerequisite for success in this role.
  • Affiliation to an Engineer Council is desirable but not essential.


Experience:
  • Experience in an aerospace design office is essential for the success of this role.
  • Previous roles producing mechanical designs for Aircraft would be an ideal background for the right candidate but there could be flexibility.
