Our client has an opportunity for a Geotechnical / Geoenvironmental Engineer to join their expanding team in Redruth, Cornwall. The role will be predominantly office-based with fieldwork varied to suit project needs.

Our client provides geotechnical design and contaminated land consultancy, as well as in-house site investigation services, monitoring, and inspections. We also have our own team of surveyors that provide utility tracing, GPR and topographical surveys.

Where will you be working?

The role will be based in our Cornwall office, with a mix of office and site work across the region. The Southwest team are based in the office and warehouse at United Downs, a few miles from Truro and Redruth. The team here routinely undertake fieldwork in the southwest, with occasional needs further afield.

The Role

A week might look like:

·Liaising with clients, engineering supervisors, subcontractors, and other project stakeholders;

·Planning and coordinating ground investigation works both with our in-house site teams and external contractors;

·Working with our Estimators to handover and kickstart new projects;

·Supervising multi-activity site works such as drilling, trial pitting and in-situ testing;

·Soil and rock logging and laboratory test scheduling;

·Processing and interpreting field and laboratory test results;

·Deriving parameters and preparing design reports;

·Writing technical memos and communicating our work to our clients;

·Working with our accounts department to prepare invoices;

·Mentoring junior staff and giving technical advice.

What are we looking for, the following attributes are essential:

·Able to demonstrate multi-year progressive industry experience in Geotechnical / Geoenvironmental engineering;

·Experience in writing and preparing factual and interpretive reports;

·Experience in managing projects and site works;

·A degree or similar qualification in geology, engineering geology, geotechnics or other relevant earth sciences;

·Experience of developing ground models and assessing existing risks and solutions related to ground activities;

·Able to demonstrate progress towards Professional Chartership with a relevant industry body;

·Enthusiastic and supportive team member with strong verbal and written communication skills;

·A strong work ethic and desire to learn;

·Ability to interpret geological maps;

·Experience logging soil and rock to BS5930;

·Ability to manage time and complete tasks efficiently across multiple projects;

·Capable of presenting ideas and working collaboratively within a team;

·Flexibility for occasional work assignments nationally with overnight stays;

·UK Driving Licence;

·Computer literate, able to use MS Office applications, SharePoint etc;

The following attributes are desirable:

·A Masters in a relevant discipline;

·Chartership with a relevant industry body, or membership of a Professional Association (e.g ICE, IOM3 etc.)

·Experience in preparing Basement Impact Assessments;

·Experience in design to relevant British Standards and Eurocode;

·Experience with Contaminated Land investigation and reporting;

·Geotechnical Design experience;

·CSCS Card.
