A triple-office Civil and Structural Engineering Consultancy are looking for a Structural Engineer to join their Cumbria-based office in Whitehaven to work on the Nuclear Team.

This is an opportunity to continue to develop your career; and help support and shape junior engineers; and all whilst working on the doorstep of the Lake District National Park.

Responsibilities of the right Structural Engineer:
  • Lead medium sized teams on technically complex projects.
  • Working as part of a team of engineers on technical design works including Checking, Approval, providing advice and assisting with technical directors to deliver work packages.
  • Developing graduate engineers by offering support and advice.
  • Working with our design team to produce relevant civil and structural design information.
  • Committed to the successful delivery of projects, meeting the needs of our clients, the development of the team and business as a whole.

Essential requirements of a Structural Engineer:
  • Honours Degree (or equivalent) in Civil and Structural Engineering.
  • Chartered or Incorporated Membership Engineer (ICE or IStructE) or progressing towards Chartered Engineer Status.
  • Minimum of 5+ years relevant experience according to grade.
  • A flexible attitude to the type of work undertaken and the level of responsibility given.
  • Familiarity with current design standards and current practices.
  • Strong Technical and Communication Skills.

Desirable Skills:
  • Good working knowledge of design software packages (e.g. STAAD Pro, Revit & Tedds).
  • Previous experience in the Nuclear industry.
  • Previous experience in British Standards.
  • Experience in US or other foreign codes.
  • A background in Steel and Reinforced Concrete Design and Assessment.
  • Experience of assessment of structures using approaches outside normal code methods.
