Reed Talent Solutions are currently working with a South Yorkshire based Local Authority to recruit for a Civil Engineer on a permanent basis. The post-holder will undertake building and engineering design work across a variety of local authority projects.

Role Information
  • Contract - Full time, permament
  • Salary - £36,371 - £39,571

Key Responsibilities
  • Use of IT: AutoCAD (RVT preferable but training would be provided), TeklaTedds / Tekla Structural Design, NBS Chorus to prepare engineering designs, production drawings and specifications for projects to the highest engineering and technical standards that conform to the Clients Brief, budget, relevant current legislation and guidance, and are completed within the project programme and fee budget. The nature and size of the projects will be appropriate to the seniority of the position.
  • Additional software that it would be useful to have a working knowledge of, but isn't essential, is Autodesk Robot (calculation software), Civils 3D.
  • Prepare accurate condition and dimension surveys, structural survey reports of buildings and infrastructure within programme and budget.
  • Provide design advice to clients and other design team members on issues such as; condition, feasibility, risk, and sustainability and be conversant with methodologies of reducing the "CarbonFootprint" of a building.
  • Assist in setting fees, prepare resource requirements for projects, monitor the expenditure of fees on projects, identify and report client requests for additional work/service.
  • Liaise with and incorporate the input of internal and external consultants to ensure completion of construction projects.
  • Act as Project Manager/Contract Administrator on small scale projects where required.
  • Comply with all current and relevant Health and Safety legislation, guidance and best practice and complete designer risk assessments and pre-construction information that relates to Health and Safety.
  • Undertake any appropriate training and staff development activity in accordance with a planned programme of development for this particular post, and take part in any general training and staff development organised by senior grade staff
  • Take an active role in supporting the Service and the Council to sustainability and reduced energy consumption across all programmes, projects and areas of work

Essential Criteria
  • Understanding of current Civil & Structural engineering standards and techniques.
  • Understanding of current law in relation to Civil & Structural Engineering, CDM, and European legislation.
  • Understanding of Construction Contract Administration.
  • Proven ability to contribute to and advise Design Teams on projects.
  • Well-developed ability to research technical solutions in design and defect investigations.
  • Well-developed ability to explore and present design and technical development options/solutions in a clear manner to suit lay clients and for the construction team.
  • Ability to co-ordinate and prepare presentation standard drawings/materials/reports.
  • Full understanding and support of QA systems and the objective of a quality product meeting the brief, delivered on time and to budget.
  • Commitment to contribute to the continual improvement of the service.
  • Understanding of the requirements for financial probity and accountability in public sector projects.
  • Experience of administering contracts.
  • Experience of managing projects in a broad range of size and complexity, meeting programmes and working within budgets
  • Good design skills.
  • Excellent AutoCAD skills and experience of using Revit.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills (written and verbal).
  • Evidence of self-motivation and resourcefulness, and the ability to carry out complex tasks with little or no direction.
  • Completing inspections and surveys on vacant and occupied buildings
  • Understanding of current Civil & Structural engineering standards and techniques.
