Are you a Civil Engineering Team Manager looking for a new challenge with a rapidly growing brand? Are you based in the Birmingham or Stoke Area? If so please read on...The Civil engineering team manager is overall responsible for leading and managing the civil engineering team and discipline, in addition to working on bids and projects, managing the substation civil engineering, construction- and contracting activities, starting with tendering activities together with Tendering/Sales and ending with the hand-over to the clientTechnical:
  • Manage, lead, guide and develop the team to ensure business results and career growth within the team.
  • Lead and manage the engineering resource, utilization, development, and deliverables of in-house team(s), OPCs and third parties.
  • Regularly review and inspect the design work to ensure that the work is of the standard required and that the needs of the customer are being fulfilled.
  • Manage and develop processes and tools necessary for continuous improvement, ensuring they are relevant and adhered to within the team.
  • In addition to being the team leader, you are expected to undertake full role and responsibilities of civil project engineering on assigned bid(s)/projects(s) as and when needed.
  • Manage, report on and deliver to set Key Performance Indicators as agreed with Head of Engineering, to ensure implementation of best practices and project delivery success.

  • To act as a technical specialist within the Civils Engineering Team.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and taking the lead in key initiatives.
  • Provide safety & integrity leadership.
  • Ensure effective stakeholder engagements both internally (inter-departmental) and externally (clients and suppliers).
  • To produce and review engineering time estimates & forecasts to complete for bids and projects.
  • Plan and ensure efficient resource management in line with tender and project requirements.
  • Monitor, control, and report on progress (costs and budget throughout the project).
  • Select key personnel and subcontractors for the projects and tenders.

Experience Required:
  • To be qualified for this position, individual should have a minimum of 8 years' experience in substation delivery projects, throughout its different lifecycle stages.
  • Experience and deep knowledge of Civil and structural design.
  • Experience of resource management and selection of key personnel and subcontractors for the project.
  • Knowledge of UK Building Market, Standards and Regulations
  • Knowledge of National Grid, SSE, EDF and similar major utilities.

Formal Education Required:
  • Bachelor or master's degree in civil engineering or another construction related area, or equivalent, and a member of a recognized professional institution.
