Graduate Structural Engineer | Chessington, KT9 1BD | 5-days- 37.5 hours per week | £34,000-£40,000 per annum

As a Graduate Structural Engineer with experience, you will assist the structural engineering team with the design and management of key projects.

In this role you will be involved in the design and specification of new build developments and inspecting properties with structural defects (ranging from subsidence to floods to fires etc). You will be required to manage projects, correspond with people from multiple disciplines, write repair schedules and contract documents, inspect works.

As a Building Surveyor You Will Have
  • A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from a university recognised by the IStructE or ICE.
  • Hold a valid driving license and have access to a car and be willing to use it for site visits subject to the payment of expenses.
  • Recent post-graduate experience in a similar role (circa 2 years' experience).
  • Have experience or exposure to the design and /or construction of civil and structural works including:
    • Reinforced concrete
    • Structural steelwork
    • Structural Masonry
    • Structural Timber
    • Foundations
  • Recent experience of managing small and medium sized projects.
  • Knowledge of basic engineering principles.
  • Knowledge of British Standards / Euro Codes.
  • Have a working knowledge of building defects, what can cause them and what measures should be taken to repair such damages (in-house assistance is also provided).
  • Good level of technical knowledge and ability to use in practice.
  • Demonstrable experience in producing specifications in adherence with current guidelines.
  • Show evidence of effective and clear report writing skills.
  • Be able to produce clear annotated calculations.
  • Be able to communicate their design with the aid of hand drawn sketches with clear and legible handwriting.
  • Be able to produce clear annotated drawings on AutoCAD.
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite applications including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook etc.
  • Strong communication skills - both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work to deadlines and manage time with multiple tasks.

Your Role As A Building Surveyor Will Include
  • The development of structural schemes for new build developments.
  • Defects Analysis of existing buildings and associated report writing.
  • Undertaking elemental design calculations.
  • Preparing reinforcement detail drawings, bending schedules, and structural steel details.
  • Carrying out general administration and issuing of drawings.
  • Assisting with on-site survey work.
  • Inspection of contractors' work on-site.
