The Opportunity:

An opportunity for an experienced Project Manager to progress to the next stage of their career, covering projects around Central England.

Job Purpose / Summary:

To ensure the safe and effective delivery of Projects; from involvement during initial pre-contract award, through budgeting, planning and procurement stage to construction-phase delivery, finally collating project Handover file and supporting the closing of Final Account.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Ensuring site safety is managed to Company and legal standards across all projects and through visible management commitment supporting the safety culture within the company
  • Working closely with the Contracts / Operations Manager to plan, manage and deliver project tasks and outcomes in accordance with scope and contract, including authoring of Risk Assessment Method Statements.
  • Project life cycle cost control; from pre-start budget, construction phase cost reporting and forecasting.
  • Establish the initial budget (Bo) for the project
  • Implement cost control and monitor physical progress
  • Support the commercial team during the monthly cost and revenue exercise including preparation of forecast costs
  • Monitor payment of invoices
  • Reviewing and validating plans and drawings and interface with design engineers and draftsmen to ensure accuracy and buildability
  • Application of technical and engineering expertise to the project
  • Engagement and management of sub-contractors, ensuring safe systems of works are in place and complied with, inductions completed, and work standards / schedules are being adhered to.
  • Ensure client's needs are clearly and correctly understood and communicated between all relevant parties
  • First level identification of issues or contractual changes to the SOW that require remediation and/or escalation
  • Management of Site Supervisors & Site Engineers
  • Assisting with preparation of all project QSE documents
  • Maintain accurate as-built records & production schedules, accurately monitor physical progress against pre-defined measures, programme and cost plan
  • Writing and executing Inspection and Test Plans (ITP's), quality assurance and coordinating sub-contractors on a day to day basis
  • Assisting with project close outs and project reporting as required
  • Carrying out weekly site safety inspections


Knowledge & Experience:
  • A degree in civil engineering or equivalent in a relevant construction discipline
  • Professional Health and Safety Qualification (CSCS Black/White card & SMSTS Minimum)
  • Experience of operational management of projects gained from a TIER 2 specialist contracting environment
  • Experienced with Project Planning software
  • Multi-disciplinary knowledge gained from some (or all) of the following:


Jacking & Propping

Bearing Replacement

PT Civils

Structural Repairs & Strengthening

Carbon Fibre Replacement

Structural Inspections / Surveys

Expansion Joints

Cathodic Protection installation

Skills & Attributes:
  • Demonstrate best practice Safety Culture and promote and instill amongst project team
  • Project management experience from a contracting environment; Leading via example and endorsing Company values
  • Experienced with controlling costs throughout life cycle of project; budgeting project from handover, developing cost plan and accurately reporting costs within each period, forecasting / controlling costs to completion. Working closely with commercial counterpart to ensure accurate billing and reporting.
  • Good working knowledge of the NEC suite of contracts
  • Excellent organizational skills and time-management ability; able to adhere to work programmes, plans and goals, to ensure effective delivery of projects
