The Company

My client is successful, dynamic and growing contracting business who work within Civil

Engineering and Light Rail focussing on specialist projects across the UK.

They are currently growing year on year in the UK and have a healthy turnover with a view to double this in the next two years.

As a result of an already increasing workload and strategic business requirements, they are looking to hire a Rail focussed Commercial Manager to take this business unit from £15m to £30m turnover.

The Role

All duties required by the commercial department or project team, to ensure successful setup and

running of a project or projects in compliance with all company standards.

In conjunction with their Line Manager and the Finance Manager, set and review annual budgets, future capital expenditure budgets/proposals, ensure compliance with the Company's financial authorities' procedure, monitors and reports on costs and ensures that departmental activity is within agreed budgets and authorities.

Produce monthly reconciliations of contract performance on all contracts in your business area. Utilising the Company Reporting Software (COINS/Valuations)

Optimise contract turnover, profitability and cash flow for your particular contracts.

Manage and develop the Quantity Surveyors under your control, ensuring they are adequately trained and appraised.

Deputise for the General Manager's when required.

The development of new and follow-up business including the provision of quotes for minor works.

Resolve claims and disputes from both clients and sub-contractors.

Ensuring the Company's contractual obligations with regard to cost control are met, using the appropriate standards and methods.

Manage and ensure the Commercial Closeout of all projects within your Portfolio, including Final Accounting and Cash Collection including Final Retentions.

Assisting the General Manager and Commercial Director in the preparation of tender enquiries, responses and the determination of the Company's charging structures.

Responsibility for inputting budget & tender data from successful tenders into the Company accounting/Reporting System.

Responsibility within the Commercial Department and Project Team with the preparation of the monthly project reports from the Company accounting and reporting System for both internal & client purposes.

Responsibility for the preparation of the monthly Applications and Invoicing to ensure submission in a timely manner of an accurate document aimed at maximising the company's financial position.

Take responsibility for notifying the client early of any increased project value or delay to project completion.

Meeting clients and commercial representative on a monthly basis to discuss certificates and discuss agreement and levels of substantiation required to close out change control items and application for payment queries.

Responsibility for the collection of cash and pursuit of certificates from clients in a timely manner, in order to maximise the company's cash flow position.

The Candidate

.

Must have Degree or equivalent in Quantity Surveying.

Strong analytical skills.

Demonstrable legal, contractual and construction knowledge and experience.

Proven and significant experience in a commercial environment. Preferably within a Rail/Construction related industry.

Previous experience of in leading and managing a team.

A creative, strategic and innovative approach to problem solving.

Confidence and ability to assert influence.

Computer literate and working knowledge in Microsoft office applications.

Experience of light rail/metro or industrial rail tracks

Willingness to buy into and adopt the business plan for the section.

Energy & drive to achieve company goals.
