Responsibilities:

* To lead all aerospace Structural Design activity within Cranfield Aerospace Solutions:

* To lead, supervise and check the analysis and design of aircraft structures, structural elements and system/component installations

* To lead, supervise and check static stress analyses and fatigue and damage tolerance analyses - using appropriate techniques and tools - for any level of complexity from individual detail stressing to whole airframe design

* To lead, manage and develop the Structural Design team and the individual engineers within the team

* To define, plan and execute structural analysis and design engineering work packages, to meet performance, time and cost requirements

* To devise and deliver safe, innovative and elegant structural solutions to novel aerospace challenges

Requirements

* Must be:

* Experienced aerospace chief or principal stress engineer (15+ years of relevant senior experience)

* Expert in aircraft structural engineering, with a good secondary understanding of aero-mechanical installation design

* Expert user of either finite element stress analysis tools (eg MSC-NASTRAN), with some secondary understanding of 3D CAD (Catia V5)

* Must have:

* Substantial experience (10+ years) of working in a CAA/EASA/FAA Part 21J Design Organization, within which the candidate has:

* Been authorized as a Compliance Verification Engineer for some or all of the following: Structural Design, Stress, Fatigue and Damage Tolerance, Structural Loads, Mechanical Design

* Held delegated authority for authoring, checking, approving and releasing engineering reports and drawings

* A good degree (preferably a higher degree) in Aeronautical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering, or in an allied discipline (eg Structural or Mechanical Engineering) and supplemented by evidence of structured aeronautical training and development

Chartered Engineer status (or be sufficiently qualified, trained and experienced to become so)
