Osceola County is a 1,506 square mile area that serves as the south/central boundary of the Central Florida Region and the Greater Metropolitan Area. The City of Kissimmee, the County Seat, is 18 miles due south of Orlando. Osceola's economic base is dominated by tourism, serving as a "gateway" to Disney World and other Central Florida attractions. Osceola County government is run by a five-member elected County Commission and operates as a Commission/Manager form of government.

Osceola County is forecasted to be one of the top highest growth counties in the United States and has a large and growing public works responsibility. The Public Works Department is responsible for Fleet Management, Road and Bridge, Solid Waste, and Natural Resources (Stormwater, Lakes Management, and Mosquito Control). The 400 employee department has a culture of strong teamwork and is encouraged to bring innovative ideas and solutions to the table. As a community service entity, the Department is responsible for achieving goals and objectives and ensuring that all programs comply with County, State and Federal rules and regulatory requirements. The Department is responsible for the application and administration of various State and Federal grants particularly capital stormwater improvement projects.

The position of Director of Public Works in Osceola is quite unique in that not only is there a large staff to oversee and guide, but the rapid rise in growth presents the opportunity to manage ongoing projects and challenges. The Director of Public Works will be instrumental in leading the development of new concepts and ideas, as well as providing solutions to the challenges. The Director will be involved in maintaining the high level of service to the community that has been demonstrated in the past and will also be proactive in communicating with the administration and Commission.

Requires a bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Public Administration, Business Administration or related field of study; supplemented by ten (10) years progressively responsible professional experience in Public Works programs and/or engineering firm(s) in a management capacity. Some public sector experience required.

Salary range: $156,405 to $195,000
