We are looking for bright and motivated school leavers who are have a genuine interest in the construction industry, we can offer an alternative route to become a qualified Civil Engineer.
As an apprentice alongside your studies (approx. 20% of the time) you will learn and develop the skills necessary to support the project in the co-ordination and control of the onsite construction process.
Working as a Civil Engineer degree apprentice will provide you with an invaluable technical and management experience. With the ability to develop design solutions for complex civil engineering problems. Working as part of a dynamic team of engineers and professionals through all stages of development, design, construction, commissioning, operation, maintenance and decommissioning of civil engineering infrastructure.

Key duties/responsibilities include:
• Working to complete essential requirements specified, including safety and quality aspects.
• Providing technical support to current and future project design and implementations
• Provide support to Engineering staff in engineering, programmes, technical or specialist areas.
Working on Hinkley Point C, will give you access to engage and collaborate with colleagues from across the world and from various engineering and construction companies.
VSL Systems (UK) Limited operates in the UK and is part of one of the two civil works subsidiaries of Bouygues Construction.

The group offers a wide range of civils services and have considerable experience in:
• Ground engineering & foundations
• Post-tensioning, stay-cable and other structural systems & technologies
• Civil works
• Asset preservation, structural repairs and upgrade

What You will study
We are working with Exeter University to provide the formally taught element of the apprenticeship, the content has been designed for individuals who want to fast-track their career and become the Chartered Engineers of tomorrow. In the The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2021 Exeter was voted 1st for Graduate Prospects in Civil Engineering.
You will study a broad range of topics such as project management, mathematics, geotechnics, structural engineering, and safety and sustainable development
The course will be taught in blocks to allow you to fully immerse yourself in learning and benefit from University facilities. Study will be in newly refurbished labs, which recently underwent a £6.5million investment
The content of the course has been developed in partnership with industry leaders including Bouygues Travaux Publics which is part of the same group as VSL.
The course has been designed for apprentices to graduate with chartered status in sight.
Elements of the apprenticeship will be studied during time at work with the majority of studies taking place in four, two-week blocks, delivered by University of Exeter academic staff.
Throughout the apprenticeship, apprentices will gain more knowledge and experience ensuring they are able to:

Ensure that the project is completed to the specification and quality needed by the client
Ensure that the project has minimal negative impact on the environment and community
Manage interfaces between stakeholders associated with the project
Translate design information to construction teams so they can construct the project effectively and efficiently

All course costs will be covered by VSL and you will be also get the following:
£20,000 starting salary

Entry requirements
A Level grades (or expected grades) of ABB including Maths grade B and a Science subject at grade B, or equivalent
