This is a truly unique partnership opportunity run your own business without the usual risks of startup costs , investment and developing a pipeline of work. The Director will be tasked with the development of a new business which will come under the umbrella of an existing and successful development group. Due to the nature of the companies within the group, there will be a significant and immedate pipeline of projects to work on. You will then be expected to build the business and team from that point using local contacts and relationships, it is essential that you are known in the local market.

As well as an immediate pipeline of work, this role comes with a salary of Circa £80,000 and a significant share of the business. You can expect to be based at the group's contemporary offices in either Exeter or Plymouth, depending on your location, situated not far from the M5.

This is a senior management role requiring strong technical and management skills with sales responsibility. This person will be responsible for the design quality, work winning and profitable delivery of projects within their business.

Responsibilities

Project set-up and briefing
Structural and civil engineering concept designs
Design quality of team's output (both technical and creative design) for both civil and structural Engineering project requirements
Checking and approval of principal and senior engineers' outputs
Delivery of monthly and annual profit and turnover targets for team to meet agreed targets.
Management of team and integration with other parties to meet agreed client programmes
Work winning and business development
Correct implementation of company QA, IMS (including archiving), HR and H&S procedures within team
Identify team weaknesses and issues requiring input from the director
Timely invoicing and debtor chasing, management of WIP and forward workload/resource planning
Mentoring and training team members to enable their progression
Implement appraisals and setting Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time-relative (SMART) objectives
Input into the recruitment of key staff within the team.
Core job functions

Preparation of fee proposals
Staff management
Delivery of scheme designs and input into scheme design reports
Managing multiple projects
Management of the delivery of detailed design including full tender and construction packages
Liaison with clients, statutory authorities, architects, the design team, and main contractors
Attendance at key design and site meetings
Input at management and strategic levels
Interface with and manage the input of other departments (typically Transport, M&E, Infrastructure and Geotechnical teams) - provide briefing via the project briefing sheet and monitor deliverables
Quality management - ensure team follows all necessary QA systems
Business development - work with others within the business to develop our business in line with core values
Agree appointment and contract documentation for all fee earning projects within your team.
Person requirements

MEng in civil/structural engineering OR a first degree in a related discipline
Chartered Engineer with Full Membership of the ICE or IStructE
Self-motivated team player with good people skills
Strong communication, analysis, technical design and drawing/sketching skills
Marketing and business development skills.
Within the group there are existing resources for the technical output of your business so hands on technical input is not necessarily required
