Vertical Recruitment are working with an award winning, leading consultancy working within the built environment. They have 14 offices across the UK and Ireland and are an employee-owned trust. They are renowned for their expertise in civil and structural engineering, transport planning, geo-environmental and geo-technical engineering, infrastructure, and as principal designers.

They are looking for a chartered engineer with a wealth of experience to join our clients growing Manchester team as a Team Leader. This opportunity involves managing a team of 7-8 engineers and technicians in the delivery of a variety of interesting projects. These projects are mainly based in the Manchester region and are across all sectors, ranging in size and complexity to include commercial, residential, high rise, healthcare, hotels, education and more. We are looking for someone who has experience within these sectors and delivering similar projects.

Key roles and responsibilities

* Supervision of multiple projects, taking responsibility to ensure compliance with IMS, CDM regulations, timely delivery of information, quality of our information and efficient/effective working. Team leaders will not necessarily lead on every project delivered by their team, but they will remain responsible. Similarly, their team may support other teams in delivery of projects, however the responsibility for their team's input remains.

* Resource planning for their team (on all projects the team is delivering) and assessing resource requirements from other teams that may be needed. Track financial performance on projects, comparing send vs income, and react accordingly.

* For each project being delivered by their team, understand the fees, drawdown, basis of appointment and assist with negotiation of services to be provided, design responsibility and BEP of our commission. Be alert to variations, abortive works and opportunity for additional fees and lead on this, updating vision as necessary and keep the Project Director informed.

* Review and approve their team's timesheets, each week and at month end.

* Review and approve their team's holiday request, ensuring that resource bottle necks are avoided where possible, and annual leave is planned appropriately.

* Hold regular team meetings, ensuring that everyone is communicating effectively. Brief the team on short, medium, and long terms tasks, ensure that you have the right skills, training and tools to complete your team's tasks and feedback to your line manager any shortfalls.

* Alongside the Management Team, carry out appraisals for their team. Take time to give due consideration to each individual and develop constructive professional development objectives. Regularly check with their team to ensure that the objectives are relevant, and progress is being made.

* Be aware of and accept people's limitations whilst being mindful of individual performance. Recognise strong performance and give credit and also be aware of poor performance and act promptly. Alongside the Management Team, identify the need and contribute to performance management processes as required.

* Be familiar with company policies and advise their team as necessary.

* Lead by example; create a positive atmosphere and positive relations with clients and staff. Show trust, listen to ideas, be aware of and deal with friction, train people to problem solve and take responsibility when things go wrong.
