The role:
Support the Principal Engineer as part of an engineering team engaged in the delivery of commissions undertaken within the Ground Engineering Account of the client. The lead role for many commissions, whilst for some large and complex projects it may be working within a team to support a Principal Engineer. This role will assume specific delivery responsibilities. The entry point for the Senior Engineer post is immediately upon achieving Chartered status or for an individual close to obtaining Chartership. The post requirements recognize this and demand a level of responsibility that assumes supervision of others and responsibilities for design delivery.
Requirements:
- A 2.1 degree in Civil Engineering or an Earth Sciences subject
- A post graduate qualification (MSc/MEng) in Soil Mechanics/Geotechnical Engineering
- Membership of an appropriate professional Institution at Graduate grade or equivalent
- Chartered or close to Chartered status with an appropriate professional Institution
- Full UK driving licence
Knowledge and Experience:
- Computer literacy and competence with MS office suite is essential
- Conversant with 3D Civils or CAD is desirable
- Advanced knowledge in the use of Geotechnical design software such as Slope/w and Wallap or equivalent is essential. Must be able to mentor and guide more junior Engineers and review design outputs from others
- Sound understanding of FE software such as MIDAS or Plaxis is desirable
- 10 years post graduate experience in geotechnical design
Competencies:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent organisational skills and methodical approach to analysis and problem solving
- Geotechnical design experience and technical skills commensurate with a Geotechnical Design Engineer of 10+ years post graduate experience who is Chartered or close to Chartership
- Advanced understanding of compliance with relevant technical standards (EC7) and design methodologies
- Perform other duties reasonably required as part of the role
