A large Telecoms company in London is seeking a Civil Works Engineer to join the team. This position will involve office work and 30-50% travel to sites globally.

You will be assisting the engineering teams in securing the associated resources, including permissions, and supervision of contractors during installation and construction of landfall infrastructure (terrestrial duct routes; pulling, intermediate jointing and beach manholes; seaward ducts, system earth requirements, and horizontal directional drilling). You will also be supporting the delivery of projects within company policies and procedures, to agreed targets for time, quality, and cost.

Responsibilities:
* Assisting in the day-to-day oversight of the construction contractors project delivery, requirements, safety, quality, street works, and overall performance.
* Ensuring "Safety First" and "Right First Time" culture across the field operations backed up through plans and engagement with suppliers.
* Establishing and providing follow up on required permissions, ensuring they are obtained in good time.
* Ensuring accidents, incidents and near misses, quality issues and service deterioration trends are investigated competently, and appropriate corrective action taken.
* Assisting senior engineers in managing the operational relationship with all suppliers, including on-site subcontractor supervision to ensure that requirements are adhered to.
* Monitoring the project schedules, budgetary and cost control for each project.
* Supporting follow up of contract variation (CV) and associated costs.
* Writing technical documentation including Scope of Works, Technical Job descriptions, HIRA/RA's.
* Site surveys and reporting of findings, including audit of performance and quality of work.
* Establishing and maintaining close working relationships with key partners and stakeholders.
* Liaising closely and providing timely and accurate periodical reports to the Project team.
* Supporting the senior engineering team on cost estimates, and construction requirements.
* Supporting the Permit teams with input on proposed design and installation methodologies.
* Providing advice on and maintenance of construction guidelines and specifications.
* Assisting in designing solutions based on the needs expressed by customers.
* Assisting senior engineers & project managers in the negotiation and review of the technical solutions.
* Participating in the evaluation and selection of engineering and construction contractors.
* Assisting senior engineers in providing technical support to the Projects Team, and After Sales for any Remedial works.
* Supporting associated field operations, such as site visits, cable and system earth installation, HDD installation, further Landfall Operations, and the Civil Works Competence Centre.

Requirements:
* HNC/HND in civil engineering, construction, urban planning, or related subject.
* A minimum of 2 years' experience within the construction industry or related sector, including civil engineering, built environment, urban/coastal planning & engineering.
* Knowledgeable and proficient in Computer Aided Design software i.e., AutoCAD, Google Sketch or Visio.
* Ideally a working knowledge of optical fibre cable systems, transmission networks and electrical earthing systems.
* An understanding of Horizontal Direct Drilling techniques, ideally with an element of practical exposure to HDD methodologies and installations.
* A theoretical understanding of construction and engineering contracts, QHSE and associated civil works regulations.
* A proven track record of working in a professional engineering environment.
* Engineering project experience including both the field and back office.
* Good commercial acumen, and focus.
* Ability to interpret, develop and create CAD engineering drawings.
* Ability to work independently & in cross-functional, multidisciplinary team environments.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
* Ability to contribute technical knowledge to proposals and reports.
* Ability to work in a diverse and multi-cultural professional setting.
* Flexible approach to office/home working and global fieldwork, including vessel-based operations.
* Innovative, creative, and proactive with a solution-oriented approach.
* Ability to represent the company in a professional manner.
* Excellent literacy, numeracy and IT skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office.
* Foreign language skills desirable.
* Full, clean driving licence and passport essential.
