Centre for Advanced Low-carbon Propulsion Systems (C-ALPS) is looking for Assistant Professor in Electrical and Electronics Engineering with focus on automotive power electronics and control. We are looking for a candidate with expertise in one or more of the following areas: electric drives and invertor systems, automotive battery charging, control design techniques in power electronics, condition monitoring and fault diagnosis of electrical machines.

The candidate should have hands on practical experience with power invertors, motor control and drivers, as well as experience with numerical analysis, such as the invertor / drive system analysis and simulation (including control systems).

Applicants must demonstrate high quality research attributes such as publishing in Q1 journals, PhD supervision, research grant income and impact. Alternatively, candidates from industry must demonstrate track record on advanced PEMD product development supported by evidence on engaging with OEMs and EMS companies, for example.

The successful candidate will actively contribute to research groups or communities of practice internally, through the Institute for Clean Growth and Future Mobility, and externally, assisting with bids and tenders for external projects or contracts. They will be disseminating research outputs using a range of media and develop external networks nationally and internationally. With a PhD and appropriate professional qualification and/or membership, the ability to demonstrate teaching experience at higher education level with evidence of successful student learning outcomes is beneficial. Centre for Advanced Low-carbon Propulsion Systems (C-ALPS) is a £50m research centre established to partner with the propulsion system supply chain and accelerate the progression to carbon-zero transport. Centre works across the automotive, aerospace, marine and rail industries to support create cleaner mobility and to help develop the supply chain so that it can deliver these rapidly developing ‘enabling' technologies. Global engineering consultancy FEV is a founding partner, with its UK commercial operations co-located in the C-ALPS facility. Qualifications:

  • A PhD in an appropriate subject such as Electrical and Electronics Engineering / Power Systems
  • Recently completed a PhD or close to completing a PhD in Electrical and Electronics Engineering / Power Systems


Experience:
  • Substantial experience working in research in PEMD with a national / international reputation
  • Research supervision experience at postgraduate level
  • Supporting teaching and assessment in an institution of Higher Education
  • The ability to seek research funding and to deliver research projects


Research/Publications:

  • Peer reviewed publications / conference presentations / other media dissemination activities nationally / internationally
  • Assisted Principal Investigators prepare research funding bids
  • Up to date knowledge and understanding of relevant discipline and contribute to innovation and development in own field


Job-related skills/Aptitudes:

  • The ability to collaborate with other researchers, within and external to the University
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
  • Willingness to participate in university wide research initiatives
  • Ability to inspire and enthuse undergraduate and postgraduate students
  • Experience with e-Machine design Tools
  • Experience with dSPACE or similar HIL systems and driver/inverter control scheme development and implementation
  • Experience with Driver circuitry design and testing
