Position Type
Engineer, Staff Engineer
Organization Type
Opportunity for a Lead Structural Engineer to join the market leaders in clean marine technology.

Silverstream Technologies has successfully developed and deployed a market-leading clean marine technology solution over the last ten years - The SilverstreamĀ® System. Our Air Lubrication System (ALS) fundamentally changes the interaction between water and a vessel's hull, creating a carpet of microbubbles that coats the flat bottom of a vessel. As a result, frictional resistance is reduced - dramatically improving a vessel's fuel consumption and associated emissions.

The role:

The Lead Structural Engineer will provide leadership and subject matter expertise to the Silverstream Technologies business in the context of structural design, fabrication and integration of our ALS.

The role will be responsible for managing the activities of yourself and your colleagues within the structural discipline. You and your team will be involved in a wide range of activities, wherein your key responsibilities will be:
  • Driving the design of the key structural components of our system and transitioning them, through a process of standardisation.
  • Continuous improvement of the ARU's
  • Devising and providing guidance on the integration of the structural components of the system at ship
  • Providing structural expertise and support to the Project Engineering team
  • Providing structural expertise and guidance to Clients, Shipyards and ARU Fabricators, as well as review and verification of works carried out by the two latter entities

The responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of structural engineers
  • Take responsibility for health and safety in all aspects of the structural discipline
  • Manage demands for engineering support within discipline, providing guidance to the business
  • Be effective at balancing conflicting priorities and manage workload effectively
  • Attend and lead vessel surveys activities
  • Visit supplier, partner and customer sites for meetings, inspection etc.

  • A clear and demonstratable understanding of the design of hull structures from both a newbuild and existing vessel modification (i.e. retrofit) perspective, including means of verification of structural changes through application of first principles and finite element analysis tools
  • A clear and demonstratable understanding of Classification Society rules relating to the design, construction and modification of ship structures
  • A clear and demonstratable understanding of construction/fabrication practices, processes and standards within the shipbuilding and/or related industries. With understanding spanning the above and inclusive of elements ranging from structural detailing to welding practices
