Job Location: Tiverton, Devon (role covers predominantly the Southwest Region, including Bristol)

Job Salary: £26K to £30K DOE

Job Summary: Civil Engineering graduates required for an entry-level, structural inspections and testing jobs based in Devon

We are assisting a civil engineering consultancy with their Graduate Civil Engineering vacancy that specialises in difficult access, such as, rope access, diving and confined spaces. The successful candidate will undertake a wide range of Inspections, Assessments, Surveys, Non-Destructive Testing & Intrusive Investigations, Design and Project Management.

Job Responsibilities:

Assist in undertaking inspection and testing on a variety of civil infrastructure using a range of access disciplines in-line with industry approved codes of practice. Structure types include bridges, buildings, retaining walls and towers.
Undertake inspections to a variety of inspection standards including rail, highways and defence
Assist Inspection Engineers with collation and submission of inspection reports
Undertake site works in a safe manner in line with company procedures and the safe systems of work put in place for each task.
Undertake sufficient number of examinations to meet competency requirements
Report any equipment that requires any repairs, servicing, or calibration
Report any accident, incident or near missJob Requirements:

A 2.1 (or predicted) in Civil Engineering
A good awareness of structural materials, strengths, weaknesses, failure modes + other material characteristics.
Inspections will take place mostly by day during the week, but sometimes at night and at weekends (due to the operational restrictions involved in railway and highway working). As such, candidates will need to be flexible, committed and willing to 'muck-in' with a specialist team carrying out demanding and time-constrained tasks. Good timekeeping and communication skills are essential
Candidates will be prepared to train in specialist access disciplines such as Rope Access, Confined Space and in some cases Commercial Diving.
Good at grammar, punctuation and the English Language as they will eventually be expected to write technically accurate detailed reports on the condition of structures to varying specifications from various clients (Network Rail/Highways England/MoD etc).
Competent on software such as Word and Excel.
Experience of CAD and technical drawing is also preferable
Appreciation of structures/load-paths/materials and construction practices which will all inform a good inspector/examiner.
Whilst located generally in one geographical area (the SW for initial recruits) you will be expected to travel in accordance with the demands of our workload and this will sometimes involve staying away from home
