This is an exciting opportunity for a field-based Graduate Geotechnical Engineer to join an enthusiastic team. My clients are geotechnical and geoenvironmental consultants and deliver ground investigation and geotechnical/geoenvironmental services to a wide range of clients across the UK. Based at their main head office near Towcester, Northamptonshire, they require a full time, predominantly field based, Graduate Geotechnical Engineer to undertake fieldwork duties at sites across the UK.

This will involve principally outdoor work in order to undertake a range of site-based activities including, but not limited to:
  • Supervision of ground investigation crews, including cable percussion, rotary, and window sampling contractors
  • Trial pitting
  • Soil and rock logging to BS
  • Insitu testing including hand vanes, TRL probing, dynamic plate testing
  • Soakaway/permeability testing
  • Verification sampling and testing
  • Gas/groundwater monitoring
  • Hand auger sampling and inspection pit excavations
  • Preparing soils samples from boreholes and trial pit excavations and assisting senior engineers

Awareness of construction site health and safety, and possession of Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS), Asbestos Awareness, Manual Handling, First Aid and Cable Avoidance Tool (CAT) certification, would be advantageous for this role but not essential as training will be provided where necessary.

The role provides a great opportunity for professional and personal development andthe prospect to progress to assist with project delivery through preparation of desk studies, interpretation of ground investigations and to progress to factual and interpretative reporting.

You will be working on sites nationwide and you must be willing to travel and, if necessary, work away from home. Personal pride in your work, an ability to work to deadlines, a high degree of reliability and trustworthiness are vital attributes in addition to an ability to self-manage. Communicative, organised, flexible and committed, the successful candidate will ideally have:
  • Degree in geology, a related earth science, or civils-related subject
  • Experience of drilling rigs
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Holebase
  • Must be organised, conscientious and motivated with good leadership skills
  • Full and clean UK driving licence
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels
  • Flexibility in a physically demanding work environment
