The City of Port Angeles, Washington, seeks a dynamic Civil Engineer to manage and implement the city’s transportation program. This position’s title designation will be dependent upon the candidate’s education and experience.

Located in one of the most spectacular and scenic areas of Washington State and the US, Port Angeles is situated on the northern edge of the Olympic Peninsula along the shore of the Strait of Juan de Fuca. The Olympic Peninsula is home to spectacular natural attractions ranging from a lush, magnificent rainforest, to rugged mountain splendor and wide ocean beaches. Port Angeles and the surrounding region offer incomparable recreation opportunities for year-round activities. Port Angeles enjoys a mild, coastal climate with daytime temperatures ranging from 40° in the winter to 70° in the summer. With a population of just over 20,000, Port Angeles is abundant in cultural events, including festivals, art, music, and community theater.

The Engineering Division of Public Works operates on a 2022 budget of $1,280,500 with 18 FTEs. The Division administers Civil and Electrical Engineering, CADD services, and oversees Capital Facilities Projects. The Division’s Civil Engineers provide guidance and engineering expertise to the water, wastewater, stormwater, and solid waste utilities and facilities, and Electrical Engineering provides guidance and engineering expertise on the city’s electrical utility system. Under general supervision of the City Engineer, this position will implement the City’s transportation program and perform engineering work involved in the preparation of working drawings, plans, specifications, and estimates relating to the design, construction, and maintenance of public works projects and facilities. Such projects include street, water, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, and solid waste systems.

Minimum Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in civil, environmental, mechanical, water resource engineering or related engineering discipline is required; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, abilities, and other competencies necessary for success in the target position. Ideal Education and Experience: Ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in civil or utility engineering, and possession of a valid Professional Engineer’s License from the State of Washington or the ability to obtain one within six months. Proficient computer skills with database, spreadsheet, word processing, CADD, graphics, and engineering software applications.
