Job Summary Rossendale Group provides specialist lifting equipment engineering design and manufacturing services and is a leading nationwide inspection, testing and certification company. Clients include major companies in the power generation, power transmission, steel, petrochemical and nuclear industries. Established for over 70 years, the company is expanding its engineering facility by opening a new product design office. The role includes carrying out and overseeing work on modern design systems for lifting structures and devices and the provision of calculations, FEA, CAD drawings and job management for complex projects.

Work Hours Basic hours are 39 hours per week, 8am to 5:00pm (4:00pm on Fridays).

Responsibilities and Duties The company has two production centres, at Ellesmere Port and Lincoln where lifting equipment products are manufactured. The main responsibility of the Chief Engineer is to ensure that the designs, drawings and other engineering inputs into the jobs are fit for purpose, and safe. To this end the Chief Engineer is required to -

Ø Produce structural calculations using hand calcs, Mathcad or spreadsheets.

Ø Produce FEA using Ansys or similar.

Ø Produce manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks and AutoCad.

Ø Produce automated design systems using spreadsheets.

Ø Manage projects involving the technical office, ensuring timely completion within budget.

Ø Provide technical advice to the sales team and clients.

Ø Work with the company to introduce new software and design techniques.

Ø Supervise, train and audit junior engineers in all of the above tasks.

Typical daily routines will involve a balance of most of these responsibilities.

Reporting This is a key role in the company and reports to the MD who takes an active interest in the company's technical development.

Qualifications and Skills A proven background in steel structural engineering. Experience with lifting equipment is preferred but not essential. The job requires -

Ø Degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Ø Chartered or registered status preferred but not essential.

Ø Fully capable with 3D CAD, FEA and Excel.

Ø Good management and communication skills; able to lead and be part of a team; attention to detail associated with safety related work.

Salary and Benefits Salary negotiable, £45k - £60k depending on experience and skills. The company contributes to the Nest pension scheme. 5 weeks holiday plus statutory days.
