We'll cover this during the assessment process.What you'll be doingAn exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Environmental Assurance Engineer to work within the Environmental Engineering team in Capital Delivery. This role is part of the team that Thames Water requires to achieve its AMP7 ambitions and beyond and provides the expertise needed to:
  • Lead the environmental de-risking of Capital Delivery projects and assure appropriate mitigation is followed.
  • Produce and procure and sign off the required environmental deliverables. Typically including regulatory, sustainability and biodiversity requirements.
  • Ensure that all legal and contractual environmental requirements are fully discharged.
  • Champion the continuous improvement of Capital Delivery's environmental assurance function.
  • Work with the wider environmental functions, such as our colleagues in Asset Management, to ensure a joined up and consistent approach to protecting and enhancing the environment.
  • Provide environmental technical assurance throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Create a culture where environment and sustainable best practice are embedded within day-to-day activities
The day-to-day accountabilities include:
  • Promote continuous improvement of project environmental/sustainability performance
  • Effectively communicate the requirements of current applicable environmental legislation and best practice
  • Work innovatively to identify areas where processes can be improved
  • Provide support and assistance to all project personnel to enable them to manage their environmental duties and responsibilities
  • Manage the activities of multiple disciplines in accordance with project delivery procedures
  • Check, review and sign off environmental deliverables produced by consultants and contractors
  • Represent and promote the Environment department in meetings, workshops, and reviews
  • Raise environmental/ sustainability awareness throughout Capital Delivery
  • Carry out site inspections and ensure legal compliance with applicable environmental legislation is maintained
  • Support external liaison with regulators such as the Environment Agency and Local Authorities
What you should bring to the role
  • Be educated to degree level in an appropriate environmental/ecological or sustainability discipline or possess equivalent role-specific experience
  • Membership of a relevant professional body or demonstrable relevant experience in the environment and sustainability field is desirable
  • Previous work experience in the Utility industry is desirable but not essential
  • Understand the regulatory environment we work in to achieve compliance with our environmental engineering regulatory requirements
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, to clearly interact with colleagues and stakeholders
  • Be a great team player with the ability lead and work collaboratively with all stakeholders but also capable of working independently
  • IT literate with an awareness of knowledge management
  • Have a desire to adopt and demonstrate behaviours aligned with Thames Water's values
  • Have a passion of continuous professional development and active approach to driving diversity within Engineering in Thames Water
